Okay, /v/, I've never seen a thread like this before, so here we go.
We all have different experiences with games and at least some things we like, other people have never heard of. So here, everyone lists many games they like and list some details next to them. Most of these will probably be the same, but try to include some niche categories. Also write something you like about games in the list, so that others can find their own.
I'll start:
Hitman series - stealth, third person
Sly Cooper series - stealth, thief-like
Splinter cell - ditto
Dark Souls 2 - mellée combat, HEMA
Mini Ninjas - didn't play it a lot, but it's a nice comic-like game
Superhot - very nice story, but short.
Portal series
Shadow of Mordor
Crysis 2
Thief 3
Rayman Origins, Rayman Legends - best platformer I have ever played
Mark of the Ninja

Gothic 1+2 - (A)RPG with great setting, characters, plot and story
EU Rome with Wiz mod - Grand Strategy in my favorite time period
Duke Nukem 3D
IL-2 Sturmovik - excellent dogfighting
Cossacks - RTS done right
Supreme Commander - see above
Apotheon - platformer set in ancient Greece with a unique artstyle and pretty good level design
Besiege - physics + building

If you liked mark of the ninja you should try Nightcry, it's a more simple idea focused on speed.
I'll just name one game I like:
Rise of legends: RTS with steampunk and magic, nice campaign where you play every civ with the protagonist and his allies. Has a map view like a civ game where you gain territory and defend it against the enemy.

I've heard good things about Alea Jacta Est and Hegemony 3. Hegemony 1 is awesome; Greece instead of Rome but a good feel to it. May want to check those out if you haven't already.
