I do dismiss nostalgia. Double Dash actually had a good skill ceiling. You can dodge everything in the game besides lightning with precise timing (not requiring items, by the way), which became impossible after DD. I'll admit that MK8 is absolutely gorgeous and the anti grav/F-Zero mode was a neat addition, but it's literally Mario Party: Racing Edition.

Nigga when is the last time you played this game? I can literally sit still for the first 10 secs of a race and still place top 3 by the end because of the item imbalance. 8 punishes good players to even out the race so bad players can feel good. That's why this game makes the perfect drinking game because anything can and will happen, but if you want to play a Mario Kart game that's actually based on skill, you'd have to play anything before Wii.Or turn items off, but who does that?

If you stay in first place and play optimally, you can break away from the pack very easily and the game does little to equalize the field. I've played alot of 8 with /v/ at launch and the good players would very consistently place on top.

Although I've never played with /v/, I have played online with high level players that get Time Trial records close to WR, and still have the same result. I can dick around and place really high, or I can play seriously and spend most of my time in first just to get hit with 3 blue shells on the last lap. I guess we just have different experiences.

I feel like it introduced a lot to the series. The customization, Mega evolutions, quality new Pokemon, and best online of any game are all what made it for me.

My only gripe is that the new Rainbow Road was kinda lame and the battle mode is lazy.

Overall, I feel like DS was the best, and I also liked 7'sretro courses.
However, I do think 8 has the best online mode. With Wii, you had to constantly register people and couldn't face random players again, and outside of Worldwide races and rematching random players, 7's online is laughable, especially with non-private communities being a thing while also removing friend rooms, which were at least a slightly better option. 8 allowed for more options for worldwides (like cc, DLC/no DLC) and finally added private communities, meaning people only have to add the community code to play rather than add every one of their friends and hope they all join the host's game in Wii.
