I've played through Des, Das and then BB, skipping Das2 for whatever reason. With Das3 coming out, i considered running through Das2 sotfs on PS4.
I watched a little bit of a playthrough to see if id like it, and it looks fucking horrible, what happened? i thought maybe after finishing BB again recently that the step back in graphics was throwing me off, but after watching Das and even Des gameplay, they both look so much better than most areas in Das2.
So far Majula is the only area ive seen which actually looks like a finished product. everywhere else looks like a free to play Korean MMO from 2007. Its like they just knocked up a level in some 3D model program and tiled some textures over it and released it like that, no filters, no lighting effects or even any shadows or atmospheric effects. was this even made by the same company?

I'm not sure if you've noticed, but all souls games are about 6 years behind in the grafix department. SotFS does look better than DS1 tho.

So it's not only me. I recently upgraded my PC. It uses a lot of CPU unfortunately. At first my cpu speed was slowed down to 2.6ghz, the speed was shit. I pulled it up to 4ghz, it goes sub 30 on some open areas but steady 60 otherwise. I don't know if vsync is set on, but it's abysmal compared to other games I play.

The entire world of ds3 is interconnected and despite the initial warp everything after is seamless and you can see how everything connects reasonably from a distance like in ds1 rather than the garbage in ds2. Some of my favorite moments so far:
-Going up from Farron Keep and.realizing youre on the broken bridge you saw all the way back in Undead Settlement
-Standing atop Anor Londo and seeing the entire town you've been in, the great cathedral, the bridge, and lothric way in the distance

It comes down to lighting and shadows. Anything that's not prebaked looks fucking awful, esp the PC. DaS and DeS look like shit but that's cuz of their generation, with all respect to that they look good, and it's not like DaS looks so bad it's unplayable, darkroot garden is still the most atmospheric forest in any game I've played, and nito is still spooky as fuck, and there's a lot more than that. DaS 2 is a graphical abortion, and most of it comes down to bad lighting.

That's not a good thing. DaS1 was bleak, but beautiful. The only traditionally colorful and scenic area is a complete illusion.

DaS2 failed at making the game bleak in the first release when they just made everything grey, and then completely ignored the tone of the series in SotFS.

but from Majula? its simple. you can see majula from heide's. the distances are shortened. so what might actually be a long way worldwise, is shortened for gameplay purposes. it's a side effect i imagine, of DaS2's lost open world structure. they had to jam everything together when Bamco told them to stop

The lightning is the biggest problem, just look at the walls of the cave here. all of the wall, the floor, everything is perfectly lit with no shadows somehow, it should all be so much darker and have variation through it. and your character has no shadow, he's disconnected from the world. lighting is one of the most important things, its the difference between a realistic environment and an obvious room with objects placed around it and models moving around on the ground
