The worst part of Starfox Zero is that it's almost a fantastic game. Wrestling with the controls, and some bad design decisions aside, it's still Starfox, which is all it needed to be great. That said, some of the actor's delivery is fucking awful.

The motion controls aren't actually too bad, but the gyroscope desyncs all the damn time, so I don't understand why they didn't turn on the auto sync option by default.

Can't wait to see how Nintendo fuck up Zelda U though.

I don't mind the controls or anything of the sort.
The one thing that bothers me is the fucking inability to change the sound settings.

The voices only comming through the gamepad is stupid, the sound effects for the lasers and the boost echoing through the gamepad makes it impossible to hear the music half the time. and the fact that I can't change or turn off any of these is the dumbest shit imaginable.

All this game needed was more levels like Sector Omega and Corneria 2 and it would have been perfect. I can't believe didn't just reuse levels and assets to pump out an extra 2-3 rehashed levels with new enemy locations? Wasn't that the entire reason for their portal gimmick?
Like, honestly, it's so simple. Imagine Fortuna at night, with tougher nocturnal enemies, more vines, lower vision, and an organic version of the spider boss you fight on Fichina, with a few new moves designed to challenge Arwings?
Or an Arwing Titania mission during a sandstorm, where you need to dodge flying pillars and boulders while flying at top speed?
Or Corneria with a Landmaster?
Or a standalone Venom mission that replicates the Deathstar run, complete with Wolf chasing you like Darth Vader?
Or Area 3 at top speed, flying all the way around the halo station in a complete loop with repeating buildings and structures, but more crazy obstacles in your path while you tail Pigma?

Like, I feel like this is the one type of game where you not only have permission to rehash levels, but are almost EXPECTED to extend the longevity of the game through cheaper means? I just don't understand where the extra 5 months of development went, when they could have so easily just taken their already established mechanics, enemy types and maps, and just went crazy with the amount of alternate missions? And then half the missions are still in space (IE, black voids), or all range mode arenas? Where did all the level designers go?

I really did like the two different views. The extra involvement it brings having to check both screens at certain points was fun for me
>>
>>335472150
It's strange how all those implications mean absolutely nothing in the end.

I personally think that Pepper was going to be some sort of alternate final boss, but got cut out for whatever reason. That could explain why there's only one Andross fight.
>>
Guys I'm seriously on the fence about buying this. Is it worth $60?

Pretty damn excited, considering all the haters got their shit shoved in for good since Zero fizzled and she wasn't even there to "ruin" it, and if they bring her back she'll probably get a ton of prerelease hype like Dixie did with Tropical Freeze. I'm not even looking forward to Krystal herself so much as eager to see the resulting butthurt.

At the end of the day, though, the sequel is still going to suck if Nintendo doesn't add core elements back into the games, like (true) multiplayer.
>>
>>335480193
To be perfectly honest with you, I don't see why she is so hated by most people. Is it because the games she's in are not that great, and thus people associate her with the downfall of the series?
>>
>>335480425
The games she is in are not great, the writing her character gets isn't great, and her character concept isn't very good. She is popular despite all these things because people find her sexy. Thus, a character most people find to be emblematic of almost everything wrong with Star Fox.

For me, it was always because she was a character designed for a totally different story and it shows. She's listed as having "psychic powers," for fuck's sake.
She also dragged a lot of obnoxious romantic drama into the series.
>>
>>335480425
I don't mind her in assault but her implementation in Adventures and Command is awful. Plus I think she looks pretty terrible, all blue and shit. I wouldn't be mad if she was back as long as she is characterized well and doesn't shoehorn in a romance sub plot. The director at Platinum said he would like to have her in a sequel so we'll see what happens.

Corneria:
Easy route: Androssa (minus chickenwalker gimmick part)
Hard route: protect the cornerian ship

Sector a:
Straight shot, Same boss, blow up the reactor. Good place to learn chicken walk gimmick

Aquarossa:
Fight the boss

Area 3:
(Take out the gyrowing completely)
Easy route: Lose the Gigarilla (Drastically speed up the time)
Hard route: Stop Andross' forces from taking the gigarilla
Warp: Secret switches around the colony power up the telporter to Zoness, find them with the walker. make the warp like sector X where you have to survive to pass, and make it a top speed part

Zoness:
(Again no gyro copter)
Straight shot to Sector b make the escape a top speed to get out before self destruct

Sector b
Easy: Lose peppy to wolf
hard: Defeat star wolf

Solar (BECAUSE WHY WASNT THERE THE FUCKING SUN IN THE LYLAT SYSTEM.)
(Think of this one like macbeth's supply depot only with a solar meltdown or something)

easy: Fail to Destroy the bioweapon in time
Normal: Destroy the bioweapon
Hard: Adjust all pressure gauges to stop the meltdown (Shoot the 8 switches to open the lock)

Astroid field:

Straight shot, protect the great fox from cosmic dhora and drones

Sector y:
Easy route: Lose the great fox to the drones
Hard route: Stave off the missles before time

Fichina/Foruna/Titania: Same as is. straight shot to omega and venom.

Wolfen events still happen at respective locations
Salvadora still happens at Titania

I'm not saddened by the game persay, but I'm upset at the sheer lack of bosses or memorable moments.

Every single stage in 64. Every single one had a boss. Granga, Attack carrier, Meteo crusher, Shogun, Mothership, Star wolf, Solar Bioweapon, Bacoon, Spyborg, Saurmarine, Mechbeth,.Ghoras, Super missle, Gorgon, Satalite Core, Golemech, Wolfen II, Andross, True Andross

Zero had:
Androssa, Aquarossa, Star Wolf, Scrapworm, Ghidhora, Mother Strider, Attack carrier, Gigarilla, Star wolf 2, Andross

Half the stages don't even have bosses OR satisfying ends.

Theres very little banter, and hell, half of the stages involve Fox "going it alone" through a portal, so whats the point of even having the rest of the crew?
>>
>>335485421

I'm kinda glad they delayed it as much as they did to just tie together what they had.
You could clearly see there were some stuff they wanted to do more of but just left it alone and moved on for time, like the original plans to split up a level based on if you blew up the first boss' core or not.
You still see the "Complete" "Accomplished" differance afterwards, but all the stuff they mentioned last E3 about levels being affected based on that decision just never came up.

Still, for what it is, the game is pretty fun.

It's a shame the mission accomplished never came through. Some of them are terribly challenging too, like the one on Sector Omega. Imagine going through a run and just getting hit once and having to start all over in arcade mode. It would be so intense. As is there's no reason to get mission accomplished after getting it the first time. They could have at least added a hit bonus for beating a mission that way.
>>
>>335487137

I'll put it like this

>1-3 hours depending on how you do the first time

Starfox 64:

>A retelling of the original starfox
>Enhanced visuals
>Added 3D all range mode maneuvers
>Memorable campy dialogue and a plot that basically parodied star wars, independence day and other sci-fi flicks.
>Star wolf and backstory added and fleshed out.
>could choose planet routes by planet instead of following a linear path from the begining
>TWO Final boss choices depending on your route
>Short and sweet but easily replayable
>Loved by many

Zero:
>A retelling of Starfox 64
>Enhanced visuals
>Forced gyro and motion control into all range mode
>A few one liners that stick but the majority of the game is slightly altered quotes from 64, or just plain silent. Plot is exactly the same as 64 with a minor tweak.
>No new enemies/rivals every single boss asset is reused in a different role.
>Story route is pretty much linear on a first run, diversions are minor and ultimately end with the same finale.
>Only one final boss, and its a tedious fight forced by the gyro controls.
>a 3-4 hour trek with no life count other then the gold ring bonus, which makes arcade mode annoying as heck if you've spent 2+ hours just to die at the finale from bad camera and control.

There's a reason arcade records your time, take a shorter route. The paths in this game are 'disappointing' for people compared to 64 because they're not new full levels, but that's exactly the point because of how arcade mode works.

Overall, this is one of the worst shitposts I've seen in a while.

I think sector omega worked because it was the only stage like that in the game. It could have been a bit longer though.

>anon you need to use both screens
>NO FUCK THAT 64 USED THE TV I'M GONNA USE THE TV ONLY
No wonder people hate Zero, they refuse to adapt at all.

after you go through once you can just select what level you want to play. i've only gone through the main route and haven't gone through to find the bonus missions, but there were only 1.5(you use it for the 2nd half of mission 2) gyrocopter missions there. it's really, excruciatingly awful, but unless you want gold trophies and medals you never have to do it again. i thought i would 100% it but i honestly can't imagine sitting through zoness again. there's also a few retarded segments where you convert the arwing to a little walker mech and have to do garbage platforming and stepping on switches to open gates. it's like miyamoto went senile and forgot what game he was working on

is it worth $60? it kind of depends on how much you like starfox. Sector Omega almost made the garbagecopter worth it for me. the motion controls are a bit weird, but it's also a godsend to be able to aim independently of where you're flying. the good news is they work the way they're supposed to, you have to click the recalibrate/center button kind of often but it's just the left stick so it's not like fighting with the remote in skyward sword. it's mostly a matter of getting used to it. that said, there really should have been an option to fully shut off motion controls.

i like it. it's not perfect and zoness is one of the worst things i've ever played in a game, but i recommend it if you're like me and addicted enough to the genre to do full 100% runs on multiple copies of SF64. i'd definitely find a way to rent it first since you could easily go either way on it.

I feel ashamed for not getting a lot of these

I kinda disagree, I feel like any good stage gimmick should have two levels.
One to teach and one to go nuts on.

He thinks he's still working on Star Fox 2.

64- All-range mode, Star Wolf, Charged shots, ground combat
Adventures- Andross's Krazoa face acts a lot like his Mask form in the SF2 final boss fight
Assault- All-range ground combat with small objectives such as switches to hit to progress
Command- The strategy and time limit elements and alternate Arwing forms

And finally Zero with the Walker

Miyamoto had nothing to do with Adventures, Assault, and Command.

/v/ keeps treating the Gyrowing as some sort of end of the world abomination when in reality it isn't that bad.If you know what you're doing your time with it is pretty much cut short.
