Matt and Woolie don't understand character arcs, they don't grasp that things change over time in a story. The way they callously joked and ridiculed the end of FFX, including literally claiming that Tidus becoming ethereal and passing through Yuna as he fades from existence was a clipping bug, was ridiculous and a waste of the entire game. They didn't take anything seriously and entirely missed out on any emotion or connection to the story. They wasted all the mana they could on Flare, when their -aga spells do nearly as much damage, they spread out damage across enemies instead of eliminating them one at a time to reduce incoming damage, they never found out that swapping characters is free, they couldn't grasp that you lose turns after using an Aeon's overdrive and were bewildered every time, Matt hovered over every move every turn as if he forgot what they all did, they were scared to use the basic attack command, and a million other things. Except that's exactly what it is, ZZ has been shitposted to death forever since the first 10 or episodes are kinda weak and a massive mood whiplash from the end of Zeta despite being a direct continuation. That and it only recently got actually decent subs, so that probably didn't help either.
It's probably the weakest of the first three Gundam series but it doesn't deserve anywhere NEAR the amount of shit it's had flung at it. Especially since, like anything else, less than half of the people flinging shit have actually watched it.

That was one of the examples, but that was mainly just to make the point that David Hayter was always strictly a dub role, so claiming personal ownership of the character was outrageous as a person who was simply hired on to voice a character that was not only made and written by someone else, but already voiced by another person who is closer to the director.
