who the hell goes to frys to buy games?? you go there to window shop motherboards because they actually let you see and touch them becayse they display them out of the box. buying anything else there is an exercise in futility because they keep everything locked up and you have to wait in line just to get your product then wait in line again to go pay for it.

I don't want to support local retailers or even big ones. I think the internet is the way to go for shopping, eventually we're just going to have a bunch of empty buildings that will be converted (or demolished) into something beneficial to people.

In retrospect, I can see the need for things like clothing stores and groceries. However, community gardens are the future.

I also want to say record stores and book stores, but the internet can handle those too. But when I think about it, a lot of the local bookstores here have rare books that are out of print and are at a good price. Record stores don't stand up as well because of discogs and such; they also know when they have a rare item and will mark it up.
>>
>>335417504
I was about to say they're not that great, but they're actually pretty tight. One of the few places in my area you can walk in and buy all the parts to build a PC, among a ton of other shit like consoles, vidya, music, home theater, then all the sharper image shit you don't need but is cool to play with. Best of all the staff at the ones I've been to are actually knowledgeable and are very friendly. It's like how you're told to run a business but then you don't cuz fucking whatevs but these people care.

Its so fucking amazing living near a frys. Customer service sucks if you dont know what you're looking for, but other than that its solid in terms of prices and actually having alot of shit you wouldnt find at any other brick and mortar store.

GOOD

it's called competition if you can't meet or exceed your opponent you deserve to lose

local stores:
don't have frequent enough sales
don't sale pc games
don't refund new games

I don't give a fuck if they go out of business this is the new age, the digital age this is the world that we are from
>>

I'd be happy to buy from businesses around me if the employees weren't such dicks. Not my fault you work retail.

As far as I can tell, it's designed to be attention getting, as if their size didn't dwarf most other vendors anyway.

It's not a bad store, and I wind up wasting tons of cash every time I go on computer and electrical stuff, but the internet tends to do me better for the most part. Easier to check a webpage for deals than it is to go to a physical store and check to see what's in stock and what's the price.

The Indianapolis store is an old Incredible Universe, which was a competitor that was later absorbed into Fry's. Many of the old Inc. Univ. stores don't really have a theme, just random crap from the local area.

Incredible Universe, if you're too young to remember, had its own theme of sorts. It was designed to be a super Radio Shack with the feel of a theme park. They have the roundness to the front to match the circular area that was in the center of the store where a stage with live music and attractions were featured.

>>

Problem is, employees there are extra stupid and it's due to a number of things:

>only 1 initial drug test then they never test after that, ever. If you do drugs and get hurt on the job you deserve what comes to you.
>pure commission or 7.25 an hour
>customers leave their shit for months in the service department, to a point where after exhausted all means of communication attempts, the electronics are sent to san jose where they are "recycled" for profits

mix all those together and you have retards who steal from customers who think they will never see their electronics again, and get caught because there are so many cameras and they do it plain view.

there is also no revolving door policy that they publicly admit so if you quit even for the summer you can't go back to work there. Not that you want to but some people like living at the bottom.

I do too, but you're kidding yourself if you think modern consoles are in any way like physical software of old. Most games are now tied to multiplayer which can be disabled by companies at will, and on some consoles, you can wind up branded with a ban and not allowed to access the full functionality of the game.

Only way to buy physical now is to buy PS2/GC/Xbox gen stuff or earlier, otherwise you're getting nothing better than a game burned to a CD.
>>
Price matching is fucking godsent if the cashiers don't give a shit. I went to buy a new mouse (the one I had, G300s, was too small for my hands and it was starting to hurt my hands) at Best Buy Canada. Looked the prices up a bit before. The G502 Proteus Spectrum was 120.99 CAD at Best Buy and it was 80$ USD (roughly 100$ CAD) from some reseller on newegg.com.
They reduced it to 72$ CAD (pricematch policy is cheapest -10%), 48$ reduction. They didn't even adjust the price for the USD/CAD conversion. Pretty happy about my purchase.
>>335419453
I like brick and mortar better, if they have the thing I want in stock that is. You get your stuff right here and there, no waiting for delivery bullshit and you don't pay much more.

Almost every position is commission in some form.

>Components salesmen are minimum wage + commission.
>Service techs are 10.50 an hour + a team based commission. It's like a 50 cent raise for everyone for every $500 the department makes.

I'm actually not sure what the receiving department makes or the other roles in the service department that are car electronic installers or our delivery and installation guys but I believe the delivery guys are flat rate hourly.
