I havent been to on top of FFXIV so far. But last I checked they were two patches in and still nothing to do. Crafting was still worthless. Dungeons and raids were boring and generic, and the classes still had those god awful changes.
>>
jesus christ some people just can't move the fuck on. it's been 12 years, have you thought about just playing another game instead of "fixing" this one?

>>
>>335364657
The expansion suffered from the problem of - more content, just less of it.

You can clear through the casual content in a few hours. That is unacceptable from a longevity standpoint. The non raid content is faaaar too easy and quick to complete.

Beyond that - they fucked crafting and added no new long term game mechanics that are worth investing time into.

The only reason people play the game is because it's pretty, is a FF ip, and has dumb quirky side content.
>>
>>335364942
They changed a lot within two patches and the next one is due next month.

Crafting is essential to raiding, many PVE and PVP balance changes for the better for jobs, most of everyone agrees that Midas Alexander is the best raid tier since SCOB.

Dungeons and story mode trials are designed to be casual babby mode, Extreme trials and the upcoming deep dungeons/treasure dungeons are for midcore, and Savage is for poopsocking hardcore autists who need to minmax everything.

This isn't necessarily a jab at WoW, but its because WoW's animations are kind of silly and unrealistically weightless. Your character swings his Armageddon sized 2H swords in an arc in .0001 second which means that your character is rarely stuck in an animation when moving.

>>
>>335377730
Lots of ERP and gold spammers alts exist, but barely any of them are above level 20. There's no point in alts when you can level everything on one character. It's actually detrimental to make an alt because of cross class skills and whatnot.

Doesn't stop people from making them and still being counted in the census. There are easily at least 100k active alts across all servers used for various purposes like simply hanging out with friends on other servers, extra banks using GC chests to transfer items, playing the markets, double or triple raiding, ERP or even PvP.

>>
>>335378105
sure there's alts, but a large majority of them are under level 20 so they aren't counted by the census. you don't need a level 21+ alt to bank, hang with friends, or erp. there's no point to alts above level 20 unless you really enjoy doing the 100+ hour story and leveling 2-3 different classes all over again on one character.

when did WoW get tons of ogcds and 3 month patch cycles
>>
>>335378348
Except they aren't, plenty of active alts are above 20, if not at 60. The game has been around since 2010, levels were kept for the 2.0 transition and even back then enough people had alts, despite having to pay more for every extra one.

ARR was around for 2+ years and the level cap was stuck at 50 for all that time, plenty of time to also level an alt to 50. HW has been around for 9 months, plenty of time for people to level their alts just 10 more levels, and also plenty of time for people to level another one from scratch.

Again, there are plenty of active alts above 20, enough to bring the active characters number down to 500k active subs or below, just because (you) don't think having an alt is worthwhile and don't do it doesn't mean at least 100k players don't have an active alt above 20.
>>
>>335378597
Yes, and no.
MMOs were great and amazing, but they died once social networking burst, and now are literally just hollow butchered singleplayer games.
>>
>>335378851
you're assuming that everyone who made a alt and played the game to level 50 3+ years ago is still actively playing the game on their alts to be counted in the census
>>
>>335378472

It was made early enough to pull in the fanbase that wanted something like that and now is running on the forward momentum of that player base and it's inability to move on.
>>
>>335378902
Social networking had nothing to do with the death of MMOs. It's like something in the industry today makes it impossible for a hardcoreMMO to be developed. I blame Nexon/NCSoft personally.

Well then that just means a bunch of people dropped the game, which would be correct because the game has been dropping subs and players like flies. A lot of the people who leveled their alts back then still use at least one and use it enough to be counted in the census.

This also doesn't help the bad "b-b-b-but the game has players!" shilling argument you're trying too hard to make, because since according to you no one uses alts enough to count, then the 100k+ drop from the last census wasn't just people who stopped using their alts, it was cold hard subs lost, which is even more pathetic.
>>
>>335379557
>the game has been dropping subs and players like flies
no one knows for real, Square Enix never reveals their player numbers. it's all assumptions and guesses based on limited data provided by the Lodestone.

Regardless of sub loss or not, a MMO only needs 100k active players to be successful. a subscription only MMO needs less, see FFXI.

>you can't read, also he never saved them from shit
>At a time when the coffers were empty, and the future grim, he was able to arrive at the eleventh hour with millions in investment capital. It's hard to not view someone as a hero in light like that. This is why he was the CEO of Red 5. There is no other reason. Everyone who had been, or could have been CEO, left the sinking ship - and just before it dashed itself against the sharp rocks of bankruptcy, Mark appeared with bags of money. He grabbed the tiller and hauled.

>>
Uninstall and play Runescape instead. WoW ripped off all its good ideas from Jagex anyway.
>>
>>335379891
They don't reveal them because they know how sad and pathetic it is to have an MMO that has 5 million accounts created but is very well below 500k subs. The game doesn't even make substantial profits from the subs themselves, they admit as much in every financial report if they even bother mentioning the game directly, all its major profits come from cash shop shit and merchandise.

>a MMO only needs 100k active players to be successful

Except not really, especially a modern subscription based MMO that took millions to be remade. FFXI gets by because it's old as shit and costs peanuts to be maintained, and was maintained far better than XIV which is their current international MMO flagship, with more substantial monthly updates until Yoshida the Hack severely slowed down the pace of its updates.

Hm, well, here's everything that happened with the company after they voted Kern out:

>On May 26, 2015, Chris Whiteside, the former Lead Producer of ArenaNet on Guild Wars, then the Design Director for Guild Wars 2, attended an interview as a member of Red 5 Studios, stated “We’ve been through the fire, and we’ve grown close. These guys (Red 5 Studios) have bonded into a truly collaborative business, and our overall plan is to become the best online world building studio in the business. We know what people remember from our checkered past, but we know we can prove we’ve come through the fire and controversy ready and raring.” [12]

>Red 5 Studios in November 2015 laid off 40 employees (including Chris Whiteside) and several more in December 2015.[13]

>On December 25, 2015 many employees did not receive their paycheck and in return they received a letter. "Hi Team, I regret to inform you that Red5 currently does not have the funds necessary to meet our payroll scheduled for today Friday, December 25. Due to this, there will not be payroll paid this week.

>Red5 and The9, our parent company, is currently working to resolve this, during the holidays, as soon as possible. We are hopeful we’ll be able to resolve this and will update the team immediately." [13]

I agree those events weren't immediate, that's sort of what I'm saying, that these real troubles didn't start until Kern had been gone for some time. Whiteside wasn't hired until May 2015, and was let go ~6 months later in November. Again, are you assigning blame for this to Kern?

Nonspecific reddit posts really don't constitute solid evidence in my mind; the one you linked paints Kern in a pretty bad light, though it could have been condensed to 2 paragraphs if not for all the buzzwords and quasi-philosophical rambling, yet still it was posted years ago when Kern was actually voted out BEFORE any of the payroll and layoffs issues started.

So again, I'm sorry, but I just don't see anything substantive.

XI hasn't had a server merge in years despite only having about 100k players for about as long, they won't do a server merge because they're lazy as fuck and it would cost them more to do one, on top of being a way to admit the game is dying, and considering they don't mention sub numbers they want to hide it as long as possible.

Server mergers mean nothing in this case, the census are clear and show a very real drop in players.

leave main realms alone or babies will cry
create new realms, call them "hardcore" realms, test the following experimental shit there and see how it plays out:
- remove dungeon finder, raid finder
- implement pre-nerf av as an optional battleground in addition to regular av
- extend proving grounds: silver requirement to more shit
- do more with brawler's guild
- allow people to choose an expansion to progress/raid against
- if not above, expand timewalking to raids and make timewalking rewards for raids significantly more useful than those for 5mans
- scale gear down to the zone level to make world pvp actually interesting
- get rid of fucking garrisons
- make gathering nodes slightly more plentiful to compensate for getting rid of garrisons
- reverse the skill pruning from 6.0, that shit was fucking dumb
- space out raid content more evenly throughout release so that the first three raids aren't 3 months each and then the last raid is a fucking year and a half

idk i'm sure i could think of some more shit that would improve the game

>I have no idea how artificial server limits work

You can still transfer to any locked server as long as you pay and it works the very second the payment is confirmed regardless of the server's status. That's also far less than the 150k active players Nostalrius had, retard, and it's just a bug showing the total amount of characters created on that server, not the amount of people trying to log in.

the entire system was always based around autism farming. they just streamlined it more so it became more obvious what the game REALLY is.

There has to be a brave hero within Blizzard team that deletes all the play-for-me and Facebook features.

A Brave member that says 'Fuck you' and rollback free max level characters, revamp the entire pre max-level content so it's challening

force people to interact again

Then take all the backlash and get fired because of crying faggots

What do you guys think the sub count is at right now?

I bet about 3 million of that is fucking China, I mean, look at China's population, and the fact that their subs work differently

then you have bots, and the fact that there hasn't been content for like a year

ho man

level boosts should be limited to the minimum level of the current expansion even during prepatch

getting a level boost for a certain spec should require you have a max level with proving grounds silver for something else of the same role (e.g. if you want to boost a holy pally, you'd need a max level healer with proving grounds silver already)

playing a boosted character should require you to get proving grounds silver before doing ANYTHING that requires teamwork

They need to bring back Wintergrasp, but in a way that works.

People didn't inherently hate WG, they just hated how if one side managed to take it, they could hold it for weeks because defending was infinitely easier than attacking, TB tried to fix it but honestly was too far in the other direction and making control a game of ping-pong.

>>335385860

>Do you plan to introduce any sort of classic realms that allows players to play at previous expansion levels?
>We do not plan to do that. There tends to be a lot of emotional desire for that, although when other MMOs have tried that, they don't tend to actually survive for long. There are a lot of complexities with that, because it has to be a bundle, where you get the old hardware, the old cold, because the old codes meant to run on the old hardware, the old data, the old bugs, all that kinda stuff, and of course the natural expectation is "oh well you would fix all that stuff", but maintaining that many different versions of the game is just not feasible, especially in a world where people want more content, not less.

sub count went up a ton dude. everyone I know quit wow shortly after hfc and came back because we can all effortlessly pay 40k a month for a token.
>>
>>335386117

It almost certainly is. That's why they've stopped reporting the sub numbers, I mean there's literally no reason to stop unless they're worried about what the numbers will indicate to investors.

They've also been playing up 'real' subs for a long time by mixing the Western and Chinese subs; even an account with a few minutes left on it can still be considered an active account for their sub count.

Clearly this trick alone isn't even enough anymore to hide how badly the numbers have hemorrhaged.

>>
>>335386175
Except it's really a well known bug retard, and considering the low priority all broken shit gets and how long it takes to fix they just left it like that since the game launched. Nostalrius peaked at 150k active players, which is more than Balmung has because the charts from the census also show active characters over a set period of time, same as the Nostalrius numbers, not all characters logged in at once and XIV's shit servers can barely handle 3k+ players logged in at once.

Fuck off retarded Squeenix shill.
>>
>>335386387
>especially in a world where people want more content, not less

So where is the content?

>when other MMOs have tried that, they don't tend to actually survive for long.

I don't know any MMOs that tried old school servers besides Runescape, and that shit is pulling comparable numbers to modern Runescape.

Mark Kern was a producer, not a designer. Don't confuse "Team Lead" with Creative Director or Lead Designer. From Burning Crusade onward they removed the position entirely.

Rob Pardo made WoW good in the first place. Mark Kern is a fucking hack who will only ever be known for Firefail.
