this is the part I was actually looking forward to the most. I was super hyped for AC5 because of it, and the game was just that much more of a letdown as a result. Nevermind that it's ugly as shit and runs like crap - the SP is terrible, a huge step down from 4A. The missions range from god-awful to forgettable, the only reason I could even stomach it was that unlike 4A it had co-op for everything.
I got the game a month late on 360 so MP was empty, can't speak for that but I'm guessing it was unbalanced laggy shit dominated by one class of weapon like every other AC.
I'd love to see an armored core game with the kind of budget and attention that Souls 3 got. I don't think the series is dead either, and I wouldn't be surprised if the next one hit PC. But at this point I expect a huge backlash from from software 'fans' if they announce an armored core game next instead of bloodborne 2.

But that said, my real joy in the game was mech builds for team-play with /acg/ before it proper died. Building for SP isn't as good because you just need a mech that can do a little bit of everything and things like SC's are basically a no-go. They added a few weapons like railguns but they mostly all suck anyway.
I would give my left nut for a ChromeHounds 2 made by FROM; hopefilly, it'd be on PC, but I it's the only game I'd go buy a console for. It's all I've ever wanted and I'm not sure MAV will ever deliver.

Best mech game I've ever played is megamek
My fondest moment from the game was a city fight against a lyran scout lance. I was down to just a heavily damaged, almost gutted Jenner IIC and iirc a half-dead mad dog vs a pristine thunderbolt and a couple heavily damaged mediums. Fight was looking incredibly grim as my mad dog got cornered and all I had was the Jenner with a single working laser to get him out of the mess.
I decided to go all in, fuck it, and spent all my movement points ramming the jenner IIC into the back of the thunderbolt at full speed.
The damn thing not only connected and smashed through the thunderbolts' rear armor, the damage it took made its fusion reactor go critical and it fucking detonated on impact too, and then that set off a chain reaction ammo explosion in the thunderbolt just for good measure; half the torso got blown off and the 'mech smashed its cockpit into the ground and killed the pilot.

I really hope they take some lessons from the megamek community. There are some serious problems with a straight up ABABAB turn order. They absolutely need to use front-loaded initiative to prevent people gaming it with lots of light/medium mechs.
Example: 3 mechs 8000 points (A Team), vs 6 mechs 8000 points (B Team):

Thus allowing B team to get four of their units into perfect positions when B wins initiative, but even worse when B LOSES initiative:

It's like they never even lost it and get to go last anyways. (Going last is important, because you can't exactly flank a unit and shoot it in the weaker rear armor if it can still move after you have)

ACV is bad by Armored Core standards.
Not because it tried something different in the way the mechs run and gun. (It really wasn't that different, except you could no longer free-fly with boost. And your mech could wall jump.)
But because it has so few missions. The story is parceled out over like 8 main missions. And there're 80~ side operations that are "Go here, kill shit."
Verdict Day is your expansion pack. Like Silent Line, Another Age, and similar semi-sequels.

Chromehounds was the tits. That multiplayer campaign between three factions was great. I would stay up all night with my squad running missions in the desert or mountains, trying to help press the line forward. Carefully setting up my HOUND for the role the team needed me to play, coordinating effectively. I haven't had such a fun multiplayer experience since.
Plus, I liked the heavier, slightly more realistic and utilitarian style of mech of Chromehounds to Armored Core's humanoid designs.

Eh, no. Each mech comes with 3 points of insurance when you first buy them, and every time it's destroyed thereafter you must foot the cost.
However, you can make the insurance last a long, long time if you complete the QTE perfectly when it blows up, which shouldn't be a problem as it's the slowest, easiest QTE in the game.
The real problem with XCX mechs is that they're:
1) Fucking boring, combat-wise
2) Clunky as hell, visually, once you load up all their weapon slots
3) based around mechanics that rely on RNG far too much
4) going to make flight something you loathe doing because once you get it, jumping will ALWAYS put you in flight mode automatically, instead of having to manually activate it with a second jump in mid-air, and flight mode doesn't fade in, it cuts off the previous music so it starts over when you come out of flight
There's a lot that I would have changed about them, were it possible to. Oh well.
