Ultimate DOOM>The Rest only because the level design is so solid

Nah not too hyped, I know the development for the SP is different from the outsourced MP but I can't imagine there are many changes to the pace of the gameplay.
>>
>>335114369
Ultimate DOOM

Not hyped for 4 but till I get shoot demons in hell I ok with that.

Ultimate Doom and no.

Final doom's plutonia experiment had some great mazes, however evilution got a bit overwhelming for me
And no, from what I've seen it's too much like halo
t. a 19 yo who only played doom over the last few months with no prior nostalgia.

>Counting Final together and not separately as TNT and Plutonia
>No 64 listed
>Meme option
Shit poll, OP. Anyway...
TNT > U = 64 > Plutonia = Master Levels > 2 > 3 = RoE
If the single player for 4 is amazing, it'll probably be tiered with Plut/ML, if it's just good then it'll be tiered with 2, if it's shit along with the shit multiplayer it'll be at the bottom in its own tier.
>>
>>335114369
Call me a purist, but I think Doom 1 (not Ultimate) is the best. Episode 4 is fun and all, but the non-Romero levels are too amateurish and feel out of place with the rest of the game.

TNT has some kickass maps, anon. Pic related is god tier. Plutonia is good, but a fair amount of the maps are forgettable or underwhelming and the Casali brothers went over-board with chain gunners and revenants. It's the meme-difficulty game for a reason.

Finally someone else that agrees with me. I have no idea how someone can even think otherwise.

So are you guys excited for SS4 maybe instead?

I'm excited for some AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA but I can understand if some people aren't happy with that.

Another great map from TNT.
>>
>>335119439
Last I heard SS4 was going to be another prequel set on Earth? That's honestly a turn off. I want him to be hopping planets. I was hoping for SS2 craziness without the crazy alien midget story.
>>
Ultimate Doom has boring monsters. Yeah, level design, yadda yadda, who cares. Doom is about wicked daemons and 2 does that better. My favorite "official" wad is probably TNT, though if you count No Rest For The Living, it's a close contender.
>>
>>335114369
I really like the PS1 port of Doom

Best: No Rest For The Living (nerve.wad, the only positive part of the BFG edition.)
Hype for D44M: no, not even going to waste the bandwidth on a pirate, it's like T4FFER or DmC to me.
It's id in name only now, the last original Doom dev left in late 2013 (Carmack), anyone expecting good is going to be disappointed.
Space Hulk: Brouzouf Edition, Overload and Lo Wang Returns Again are the three FPSs I'm looking forward to this year, D44M reeks of cynical nostalgia cash grab, means Quake is next on the menu.
>>
Why isn't DooM 64 on the list? Yea it wasn't the best but it was good for a lot of other reasons. It was a mediocre traditional DooM but a great atmospheric DooM. The ambient music en-lieu of the metal made it pretty creepy.
>>
>>335121415
>It was a mediocre traditional DooM but a great atmospheric DooM
Doom 64 was anything but mediocre. If anything, only the name was.
>>
>What is the best Doom game

DoomRL
>>
>>335121415
I grabbed the little .wads that had both the PS1 music and Doom 64 music to play with random map .wads in the source ports; the music really changes the vibe, especially in hell levels.

>>
Gonna go with Ultimate Doom

Not hyped with 4. It looks like it doesn't have to same feel to the first 2.
>>
i really wish i didn't have to search the map for armor. it should be part of the loadout and get stronger as you level up.
when i hop into a game right now there's always that one faggot that picks up the armor and kills me, because i can't do enough damage. it doesn't matter that i've played the game for 50 hours and he only for 5, he's still gonna kill me because he has more hp.

this noob friendly garbage needs to get the fuck out of multiplayer.

no sense of progression

I can only hope. Still outraged that the crate bus intro got removed from Second Encounter HD.
>>
Ultimate Doom.

4 looks like a bunch of fun. Not really hyped per say, but looking forward to playing it whenever I get a chance.
>>
>>335123896
It's like they're afraid of someone thinking their ridiculous action IP is self-aware of being a video game, which is also the problem with new doom (remember how episode one of doom ended? Yeah)

Of course you can overdo it, like SS2, but playing everything as straight as possible is not the way to do it
Basically I'm saying croteam should hire me as the story writer
>>
>>335118834

You know that Robert made only 1st episode levels, right?
>>
>>335124436
>Robert
>>
>>335124235
>(remember how episode one of doom ended? Yeah)

no. how is that an issue?
>>
>>335123702
There were a few levels that got silly like that, yeah. But most of it felt fairly straight forward. Admittedly I played through all of Final Doom in GZDoom with mouselook, which might have helped. Otherwise TNT has some great levels, not counting the overuse of Minigunners.

Plutonium Experiments, on the other hand, is kind of meh. All I remember is monster closets that open right behind you over and over again. It got really old, really fast.
>>
>>335124590
It showed that the game knew it was a video game without going into smug self-referencialism.
To recap, you defeat the two barons and go into a teleporter where you're swiftly killed by 11 monsters
>>
ultimate doom
nope
>>
>>335124718
>with mouselook

It doesn't make a huge difference in Doom since it's mostly NOT about aiming. Dodging is more important. Mouse look makes the Rocket Launcher more viable as you're not wasting shots when you're not locked on. And you can snipe better. But that just puts you on par with the enemies who can snipe as well.
>>
Doom > Doom 2 > Doom 64.

I play Doom games for 19 years. Finished Doom 64 once and never bothered to go back for it after I got my hands on Duke Nukem: Zero Hour.

It wasn't a bad game, but lack of additional maps, mods and multiplayer was killing it for me. Map design was nice, but PC versions had better.

I am not counting Final Doom anywhere, since there was literally nothing new here and I could pretty much start to count some huge wads like scythe, alien vendetta or memento mori if I did.
>>
>>335124483

Romero. Its my 4th attempt to write it, just after Robert, Romeo and Romeroku.
>>
>>335124791
It's much easier to look around the environment with mouselook, though. Being able to look up means you can spot switches, keys or item that you otherwise might not know about until you stumble upon them. Which can make the key hunts less annoying.
>>
Have they said anything about the single player? Everything they talk about is mostly about the fucking multiplayer
>>
>>335126009
maybe their trying to make Doom the new cod/halo?
>>
>>335126009
That should be the clue that the SP will be mediocre garbage.
>>
>people actually voting Doom over Doom 2

I'm sorry but Doom gets boring after the first episode. Doom 2 has VARIETY
>>
Daily reminder that Buddy Dacote should be the Doomguy;'s name
>>
>>335126894
It was Flynn Taggart according to the licensed novels.
>>
>>335127301
i think it would have been funny if his real name was Doom Guy
>>
>>335127558
Or Guy Doum.
>>
Everybody who says ultimate doom doesn't actually play doom.

Doom 2 offers so much more.
>>
>>335128215
Been playing Doom since 1996 and I can honestly say I enjoy Ultimate Doom a tiny bit more, if only because the mid-game Doom 2 maps are fucking garbage
>>
>>335128552
That tiny bit is overshadowed by doom 2's modding.
>>
>>335128215
Ehhh, a lot of the levels in the middle of vanilla Doom 2 are pretty "dry" as far as level design goes.
But Thy Flesh Consumed seems to have had it's level ordering messed up.
Nerve.wad is probably the best balance in fun level design and difficulty.
>>
>>335128613
I'm just talking about the base vanilla games. If we're bringing modding into the picture it's obviously D2, if only for Hell Revealed
>>
>>335128215
Yeaaaah like a whooping 0 new bosses. My first doom was actually II, but first one was still way more enjoyable.
>>
>>335129096
Icon of Sin is sorta technically a new boss. Anyway, I assume he talked about the regular enemies, which are fantastic in Doom 2. In fact, Doom 2 probably still has the coolest/best set of monsters ever put in an FPS. Serious Sam is a close contender, though.
>>
>>335129096
this is bait
>>
>>335128215
Doom has more consistent level design. Doom II has a better arsenal and enemy roster, and some of the best levels of the series, but it also has some of the worst levels of the series. And for a game like Doom, the level design really matters.

Doom >= Doom 2 > Ultimate Doom (i.e. E4)
>>
>>335129828
Hell Beneath and Perfect Hated are fucking amazing levels, though.

Perfect Hated has the best use of cacodemons ever, I mean that start gets me every time. SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
>>
>>335129828
i'd argue the additional enemies and weapon far outweigh the arguably better level design of 1. however i like open levels more than mazes so there's that
>>
Quake is the best Doom.

>>
>>335124727
More like you kill all the monsters and are killed by the floor (or your own rocket)
>>
>>335130010
Only problem I have with Hell Beneath is the Barons of Hell that spawns with the NIN secret. Usually going for 100% kills is just what you do, but there really isn't enough ammo on that level to pull it off without excessive punching. But yeah, the first few levels are still good - it's later on it sort of comes crashing down, in my opinion.

>>335130089
I really dislike the open levels in Doom II. Especially the ones with a lot of empty space.
