Everything else was cheaper by a good margin. Also at the time Blu-Ray wasn't the definitive, it was still up in the air, so even though it was cheaper than Blu-Ray players at the time, nobody knew if it was gonna be HD DVD or Blu Gay.

Fun fact; the PS3 literally had no games until MGS4 came out. After MGS4 they slowly started getting more games and then it became a decent purchase.
