Video game industry is going to crash in five years. Games are becoming too high budget to be profitable, core gamers are becoming more jaded and are refusing to support cancerous games.
Core and general audiences will refuse to buy in to iterative consoles, MS and Sony will lose massive amounts of money because they were selling the hardware at a loss.
VR will flop because of the high price tag and the fact that it doesn't work with everyone.
Mobile games will take over console and handheld gaming entirely. Young kids already think that console gaming is something for "old people," so they won't buy in to anything in the future.
Nintendo will survive by playing it safe after the Wii U taught them that hubris will kick them in the dick. They will continue to produce home console games but development will heavily shift towards mobile games. Nintendo will make "generally better" mobile games but they won't be too different from what's considered run of the mill now.
Gaming as an industry giant will crash under its own weight, geek culture will become niche again, Nintendo will make something that gets the next generation of kids back in to console gaming, the cycle will start all over again.

Gaming was always going to come to this, it's an industry that relies entirely on mass marketing gimmicks and manipulating culture to make cash. It's aimed mostly at kids, who have "loyalties" to certain companies, who thus, will defend that company and eat everything they shit out without criticism. Literally, the entire gaming culture revolves around basing your entire identity on consumerism and extreme brand loyalty, do you do that with anything fucking else? No (well nerds do it with comic books I guess). I'm part of a local Nintendo fan group on facebook and literally it's filled with people in their 20s, 30s, 40s spending all their free money on Nintendo products from toys to wrapping paper to games, literally if it's Nintendo, they love it and will buy it. This is all they talk about, this is all they are, it's their entire identity.
