Chivalry is a great game but the combat is wonky as fuck, and animations are shit so predicting attacks has an element of luck.

I respect your point OP but you can't really compare 1st and 3rd person melee combat, the whole system is designed differently.
Mount and Blade gets my vote. Spears are way too slow but couched lances hit exactly as hard as they should
