There's a big differance between upgrading a single component of a PC vs buying a full new console/handheld. It's not like we can just installed a new graphics card into a ps4 or DS.
Let's also point out the fact that PC games have video settings. So if you can accept playing on lower graphics you can do so on a PC and not be fored to upgrade untill you want to.
Nintendos been doing this shit for ages, to the point I never even buy the first version of their handheld anymore.
The PS4.5 is going to melt your fucking face off. It's more powerful than any PC on the planet and anyone who calls himself (or herself) a gamer should set aside the money right now to buy it. It will be THE savior of video games.

But if all games have to support the PS4 and the Neo then you have that choice to play games on a lower setting with the original PS4. No one would be forcing you to upgrade, just another choice if you wanted to play games at a higher resolution/with a better frame rate etc. That's literally the same for buying a new GPU too. It might be cheaper to buy a new GPU than a new PS4, but console gaming has always had a higher cost for what you get than PC gaming so that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

It makes sense for hand heads to have technical upgrades, but not really for home consoles. PS4 is powerful enough as it is, but the 3DS did need a bit of a push.

PS4.5 isn't a slim, it's not making thr system smaller and cheaper. It's a hardware power upgrade with a new dev kit.
There will be exlusives for it at some point that can't be played on the normal ps4. Because if they don't, then there was no reason to create ps4.5. Devs just needed to code and optimize better.
