Wasn't the original Mirror's Edge not supposed to have combat and you were only supposed to run away from the enemies, since that was what the whole game was about, running through the levels? Taking out guns and making it only hand to hand seems like an improvement.

The game is supposed to motivate you to not engage in combat. Making the enemies NOT ACT LIKE RETARDS is a good way to do that. Thief already managed to do this well enough back in the 90s.

You also cant go to certain places if you haven't unlocked a grapling hook, you need to unlock moves you had in the first game, first two types of guards are piss easy to fight against, actually you can just smash x against the easiest type. At least the running is fun. And the game still has the good athmosphere. Not sure if its just because it's beta but my pc (970/i5 4690k/8gb ram) cant run it at constant 60fps with high settings (scale being low, medium, high, ultra). Based on the beta I would say it's worth playing but not worth 60 bucks

my specs match or exceed recommended (4690k, 16gb ram, 280x). i was skeptical about the 280x part and rightfully so:
>at max the game drops frame at crucial times: almost guaranteed to drop a good 5-10 frames on rolls from large drops - very jarring
>the texture streaming is very wonky: you'll frequently see hi-res textures streaming in on objects that are really close
>geometry streaming is even worse: at speed, i've walked into rooms that have simply not materialised. i've wall run across a highlighted path across to a platform that has not materialised causing me to fall to my death. this happens outside as well.
>you cannot unlock the double wallrun in the beta
>combat in the beta presents no challenge whatsoever
>classic runner vision is bordeline completely broken
>new runner vision breaks easily
>deviate from the path a little and neither mode recalculates a new path dynamically
>city is laid out in a way where you need runner vision to become familiar because of huge gaps between areas that can't be traversed
>timing on vaults is more forgiving
>grabbing onto pipes is more forgiving - i could swear i was magenetised to a pipe that i completely missed

all that said, it's kinda fun.
