well, i was never good with a controller. analog or dpad. got me a stick and never looked back.

i'm sure that's part of it for you too. i just couldn't enjoy fighting games on the 360 with the controller. and you should be able to figure out what's going on in training mode if you turn on input display.

Inputs are used so that we can have more commands, seeing as we already have unique normal attacks with directions, we need different methods to execute attacks. Additionally, certain moves are better than others and require harder execution to pull off, like full circles, for a greater reward.

SPD doesn't require a full 360 to execute. His super also doesn't require two 360s to complete and it can be buffered into other moves/jumps/dashes so you avoid the jump (so, the idea is that you input the 360s while zangief is stuck in another animation).

honestly, fighting games usually don't do a good job of teaching you how the engine's rules work. the trials in kofxiii and sf4 for example can teach you how inputs are interpreted by the game but it's not handed to you on a platter as there are no explanations.

so people will spend a lot of time trying to figure out even basic stuff. like how all diagonals to a required direction still count as the correct directional input towards a given move. or how attacks can be buffered into directional inputs for various reasons.

Quarter circle (forward and backward)
DP motion (forward and backward)
Charge back forward
Charge down up
Double quarter circle for supers
360 motions for command grabs.

I think these are the only motions that most games should atleast try to stick with. Everything else most of the time isn't even a full motion since there's input shortcuts that make it so that you don't have to do the full motion anyway. The only time a game should start branching out with the more unique inputs is if they are absolutely out of inputs and have already used up all the traditional ones and button combinations. As it is now though there's no reason why a character like Fei Long should have a chicken wing motion when his movelist still has room for tons of quarter circles and dp motions.

sure as long as you display the names all is fine, but if you switch to the directional notation what is displayed on screen isn't accurate to what the necessary input is.
