Most user maps don't have the non-linearity and interconnectedness of E1M8b. The secret where you go into the acid canal and access a later part of the map, giving you the opportunity to soften up the ambush encounter at the yellow door was genius. And it didn't rely on teleporters, it was all very organic design.
Most user maps I've played just focus on tough encounters, mass slaughters and hub design, rarely are there any maps that are connected and wrap around in many different ways and have enemy encounters that can be approached earlier rather than later and from different positions.
