Because it's amateur work. The texturing is sloppy and one object's texture sticks out from another's. Look at the rocks lying about. They don't look like they're just lying in the sand. They look placed and obvious.
Also, Link looks like he's hovering and his animation doesn't match up at all with the ground he's walking on. All the modern effects like bloom, dof, motion blur, particles, heat waves etc make a decent job at masking this, but in the back of your mind you can tell something is off.

the tech demo is supposed to give you an idea of how a certain game can look, which they did fairly well. The tuning and polish can be left to an actual game. That's the difference between an tech demo and actual game and I don't know why so many people don't realize that.

I still can't believe that Square actually made a 360 exclusive (that was later ported to PC) with UE3. I also can't believe it was slated to have a PS3 port, which was eventually cancelled. The PS3 must've been a huge fucking dud if the Japanese considered the 360 and PC to be more viable than it.

It's the same reason I don't download HD texture mods for many games. There are so many autists that genuinely believe that simply using a higher resolution image objectively makes a game look better.

Just take this example of a mod for Dragon's Dogma, the lower rocks are technically more 'detailed' but they look like utter shit. The vanilla textures do a great job implying a consistent light source whereas on the lower rocks they look the same from all angles.

Graphics can be 'superior' on a technical level but they will still be garbage if the artwork isn't good.
