I think STR and Dex are on par, as long as you use weapons from both that can be 1-handed with efficiency.
One of the most unbalanced things atm imo, is that 1-handing Straight Swords has extremely high DPS to stamina use ratio, compared to how much damage Greatswords and Ultra GS do with one swing.

Heavy Dark sword + a few upgrades will make it scale to A in STR.
I use the heavy dark sword + carthus flame arc (fire weapon) + Carthus beacon (makes subsequent attacks damage higher) and a ring that has the same effect as the carthus beacon. I'm finding myself pretty OP right now.
Speaking of the Carthus Beacon, does anyone have any idea just HOW effective it is? I haven't really been able to pay attention. I know it does a fair bit of damage. It seems like I'm getting 5 hits for the price of 4 in terms of damage. Anyone else have experience using this?

At this point going 40/40 quality on any solid refined weapon makes the most sense. Buffs are shit, spells are shit. 40/40 and split the rest of your points (about sixty or seventy) between vig and end. And use different weapons depending on the opponent's weapon.
However, rbfrosty has been testing mad shit on his stream since release, and earlier today found that most strength weapons only lose like 14 ar if you sharp infuse them on a dex build. And taking those points that you might otherwise have put into strength (not magic cos remember, spells are shit) and levelling luck will bring on serious ar boosting on hollow infused dex weapons or whatever, plus the luck bonus to bleed combined with inherent bleed dex weapons and/or carthus rouge buff, gives crazy returns.
So pretty soon we may start seeing more and more dex/luck builds and stupid bleed power.
Combine the two points I've just made and you get dex/luck builds using carthus rouge on a sharp Spiked Mace for stupid stupid ar and bleed on top.

You can win at PvE and PvP by mashing attack with a regular straight sword. I don't know what the fuck they were thinking, but those seem to be better than katanas at the moment. And katanas have always been THE shitter tryhard weapon for years.
There's no real incentive to use anything other than a decent shield and a straight sword. You can deal the same, if not more, damage than an ultra greatsword or any big weapon. Even if you don't get hyper armor, it doesn't matter because by the time you do get hit you've already done enough damage to just kill whatever you were attacking.
They literally just turned it into a light version of Bloodborne but without the speed.

You have to invest entirely into magic, and it only comes online late game unfortunately.
Magic has reverse scaling in DaS3. It starts out completely shit, but after 50 levels in int there is a sudden power spike and you damage balls out of control if you're also taking damage boosting equipment.

You can see it being charged when the webm starts, it's the guy who recorded it's fault for walking right into it. obscuring ring doesn't hide effects on the person using it, just them. I'm shitting on spells elsewhere in the thread, but I did have luck with chaos orb and fire whip. Throw an orb, then cast fire whip and you'll be amazed how many shit players roll into it. The animations don't even look alike, but there are lots of bad players right now.
Even then I wouldn't bother, but if you do by the grace of god catch a player in fire whip one of two things will happen:
>if they were blocking, their guard will be broken (wonder if it's affected by knights layer ring?) and you can recover and riposte
>if they were hit by the whip, they'll take up to 200ish damage (at 20/10 into/fai with pyro ring on) BUT you recover way before they do and you can get two hits on them with whatever you like.
So yeah. Good against bad players. You can mix up further with chaos flame vestiges (forbidden sun) but I got bored of it and made a quality build instead. Try it out.

I know I'm opening myself to a whole bunch of

posts, but I went str build with a bunch of vitality. I ended the game wielding Smough's hammer and the cleaver as backup (grass shield for stamina, but not wielded), as well as moderate armour and I could both tank hits like an asshole and the amount of dex fags I flattened was glorious. You WILL be able to cut through their attacks if you time it right, and I'd often trade blows, taking about a fifth of my heath vs half of theirs.
On the odd occasion I met someone who could work around my strategies, I'd suddenly whip out the cleaver and go to town, doing equivalent damage but with the option to switch back as and when I damn well pleased.
Shit loads of fun, and I will confess that faster bosses WILL require you to use a faster backup weapon, but for PVP, the club's fine, even the large club since it's actually faster than the weapons I moved on to. I was surprised how many people fall for the warcried strong attack as well, assuming the first two swings were it and getting pummeled by the third.

NPC signs are nearly always outside boss areas. Yon can summon Anri for Pontiff, and she's pretty strong as well. You could summon a regular player if you just wanna explore the area with someone. Usually you'll find signs at bonfires or before boss doors.

STR build is just fine with pvp, assuming you're using a fairly large weapon since most of them have hyper armor in their attack.
Although, it's a bit tricky to find the timing of each weapon's hyper armor but once you dexfags will cry bitch tears knowing only their first attack that manage to connect.
But prepare to get anal blasted for PvE. Lots of bosses are fast and leave small room for opening.

All the weapons in DaS3 seem to have dogshit base scaling for some reason,. mostly D and E and sometimes a C. B and A, even with infusions, are far too fucking rare. If you're not gonna give us good scaling then at least let us upgrade weapons to +15 like you could in DaS. I'm sitting on a bunch of souls and titanite with nothing to do with them.

did the same thing, you will probably want to have a backup fast-ish str weapon, a lot of bosses have no reprieve and you will get hit just winding up for an attack, or just after you attack while the animation is finishing.
Its actually pretty frustrating, trying to get in one attack can and will one shot you. I use a smaller weapon when I find a boss that doesnt have a moment of pause, axes are great or the faithful butcher knife.

Yeah that does seem to be the best place to farm. It's tedious but if you have the patience it's really effective. The Archives are also a pretty good place to do. Just making a fast run through the area nets you a good 50k souls in maybe 10 minutes.

Invading was never good. I got invaded by a int build who just stayed invisible and threw kamehameha blasts at me in carthus and ran whenever i tried to fight him. I got a couple backstabs and since he kept trying to pull me through all the enemies i never killed i summoned a sunbro who took care of the enemies while i chased after the mage pussy. I killed the invader and was happy.

You can only go through the fog gate when the boss is active and fighting. Like the tree balls boss, you just have to wait outside except for one time where it never activated and tree balls just tried attacking us phantoms outside the fog wall.

What? The camera is fine for the twin princess. When he teleports you're supposed to look track of him, that's part of the fight. If you want an example of the camera working against you in DaS3, you may look no further than the first stage of the Nameless King fight. Absolutely fucking horrible. I was actually sitting there during this fight thinking how in the world this got approved, it's THAT bad.

Keep at it, brah. I had this happen to me for like 20 minutes minutes straight, but eventually managed to get one and we beat the boss.
The odd thing about this is, whenever I place a sign down, I get summoned 90% the time no issues at all, but when I try and summon, it failed a good 50% of the time. The really grating thing about this is, sometimes when it happens you can't even use bonfires or online items. And then when you quit out of the game you get stuck in an infinite load screen. I can't believe how broken the whole system.

I'm using a quality build switching up between a refined pair of twinspears and a maxed Gundyr's halberd winning almost every match up. Why anyone would not go str or quality over dex is unreal to me.
as a side note, even in pve magic and miracles are garbage this time around. I initially ran a Dex/Faith build and it blew.

I used the zwei for over half the game, until I realized that they screwed that weapon as you cant hit too many enemies when they are already down, so I switched to the dark sword, which somehow did more damage in the end than the zwei anyway

In ds2 if you sinned Blue's would invade you and Lost Sinner's Sword did less damage per sin.
Does it have any affect in this game at all? There's a place you can go to remove the sin you've accumulated so surely sin must have an effect?

Most of "sin" I have seen is a safe ban from online.
The mechanics of it are wonky. Some say it occurs after X things. Some say it never can recover.
I have done X+1 things but have not been banned (invade and get invaded hourly). So there is some confusion there.
