Let's say Sony introduces the PS4K at 350$, and the PS4 goes down to 250$, they should offer current PS4 owners the option to upgrade for 100$, with all their data transfered over. Sony can then send the old ones as refurbished models sort of like Nintendo did with recalled WiiUs. I think something like that would make it OK for games to come out that really require a PS4K to run properly. Without that it would only be OK as long as very few games require the PS4K.

Even with a higher clock, it's going to bottleneck the fuck out of the GPU because Polaris is OP and double shader count means an even greater priority on feeding the GPU constantly. I really don't see a problem with this. They will now have a low-end model and a high-end model, the only real difference will only be graphic fidelity just like on pc. Getting mad at this is like getting mad at Nvidia for releasing a new gpu that can run games better than my gpu.
Also i think it would be interesting if they don't release a PS5 and just keep releasing a new high-end model and phasing out the oldest model. That way there will always be 2 models on the market the high-end and low-end.

It sucks for three reasons:
1. The price of existing PS4's will reduce signficantly, more than if just a slim version was released, which lowers the value of all PS4s.
2. Anyone who might've been considering buying a PS4 will have to take this into consideration, meaning they'll possibly have to wait even longer before being able to reasonably take the plunge.
3. Although games will have to work with the old PS4s, there's no guarantee that they'll work well. Look at Hyrule Warriors on the old 3DS. Sure, you can play it, but the performance is terrible. People with old PS4s could potentially end up being at a significant disadvantage in online games.

I could see the PS4k working out if they set standard for each version.
PS4 has to do 1080p@30fps while PS4k can do either 1080p@60fps/4k@30fps.
That way at least the PS4 version is still playable and not completely gimped.
3 years is way to soon to be releasing this though, even if they are going the incremental route. 4 years would have been a much better point to release as it is in the middle of a typical consoles life cycle.

You can buy individual parts little by little until you have a machine that outperforms any console, rather than being jipped into buying a brand new machine. With pc, you don't need to replace every single part, but with the ps4.5, the entire machine is outdate, and not even by a whole lot.
With the Wii U, you are going through an entire generational shift, most likely with something new thrown in (good or bad, at least it's unique), unlike the ps4.5 which is just a slight upgrade.

It is better than you can upgrade specific parts if you want better performance rather than needing to buy a new console outright, it's much better actually but the price point of PC gaming is still pretty high especially if you want to significantly outperform consoles, PC gaming isn't that cheap either.
