Former Sony Retail manager here, I can confirm this retardation. I used to work in one of the California stores, we were all laid off last year, every store closed despite the fact that our store was making money. The reason why? Sony Japan always felt shame that Sony America did well and they didn't with the private retail idea.
They would send us the internal numbers on a lot of products though and a lot of products are huge money losses. Because we would give out discounts to Sony employees, people from other divisions would constantly come in and tell us how bad things were. Mobile, audio and the Studio in particular were bleeding. Playstation literally is the only division that makes money and its nowhere near enough to keep Sony afloat.

Remember that Witcher is a franchise that literally started on the PC, and it mainly appeals to its player base, even then it only managed to gather 1/6 of the game's total sales. But yeah, let's ignore all the signs showing that companies give priority to console over PC, let's ignore that Rockstar only released GTA V for PC one year after its release and that most PC ports(when released) are broken.

Btw, PC is my main platform. I'm just realistic enough to realize that the gaming market wouldn't make as much money as it does if not for consoles. PC is good to support certain types of games, like online FPS, MOBAs and in the past MMOs, but it isn't profitable as consoles when it comes to AAA titles like Final Fantasy, Witcher or GTA. If you want another example, Bethesda games are infinitely better on PC due to mods and even then Skyrim had only 14% of its total sales on PC.

I can already tell where this is going. Devs are already giving sony backlash. I don't know all the details so correct me if I'm wrong. I already know that a version for the PS4 will be mandatory but if sony makes developers require a 4k mode as well I can see a lot of developers jumping ship and not releasing their games on PS4 at all because of additional development costs and time.
