Well Ace Combat final missions are always super epic. It's hard to say which one is better. The scale of that thing in 5 and the music makes it awesome to me.
I found PJ really flat as a chrachter. It seemed like they wanted to shoehorn the Chopper moment into Zero somehow.

I felt the Chopper moment was when Pixy went MIA and then unlike Chopper comes back with a meaning in the war at Zero Mission. PJ was more like that third wing guy in 5. Not Nagase, but that other dude. His name escapes me.
I thought the Ace Combat 5 encounter was really epic and a lot of things were in stake, but the problem with it is that it was really short and was far too easy and had no real of the mechanics applied to it.
Where as Zero is literally an Ace with nuclear bombs, lazers, and jousting. It was too epic for me to think it was possible they topped 5's ending.

He had a lot of potential as a character, but I really think it would of been more wised if they packed the whole marriage thing near the beginning of his storyline and focused on him being that newcomer character that seems innocent of the war. And I would of enjoyed it a lot more if he had more reactions from you being a knight, merc, or soldier. Unlike Pixy where he shouldn't care much about that stuff.
But otherwise the game is amazing in other areas. Like the lore for Belka, Knights, Pixy's arc, Roundtable, and the ending. Made up for the cliche PJ death.

But the Spanish Guitars made it better. It made it sound like a majestic dance in the skies. And then when it ramps up the Choir and Orchestration bleeds into the Spanish Guitars fitting it with the skies and epic feeling of the boss battle.
It's literally a ballet, but at the same time a knights dual. Both majestic and are simultaneously put together into that fantastic display of patriotism and meaning of a soldier in the battlefield.
