It works when it's a foreign country and you have support from other countries. Pretty much no country will support America.
USA is covered in bases and all it's hardware is there. It'll be incredibly easy to keep the country under control. The simple way will be restriction of food and luxuries to people who support the 'government'. There is no way you can WIN. Just like Afghanistan and Iraq couldn't win. Vietnam had home advantage and lots of foreign support. USA pulled out. In USA there would be no pulling out.

It's their territory and they have full control of the military. They have technology that didn't exist during Vietnam.

While it's a fan made game and probably shit I have full faith nintendo could make a fun mario American football game. Everytime they've made a sports game it has been surprisingly pretty great aside from sports mix. I think what went wrong there was focusing on a lot of different sports rather than 1. Hell even the mario party sports mini games are usually great.
