I kind of lost any interest I had in FE: Fates when I heard it was going to be 2 games which had an intertwining story of sorts and I wasn't going to bother getting 2 full-priced games if it was basically going to be like getting Pokemon Red and Blue.
I just recently found out though you don't need to buy 2 copies of the game, just get one and you can then download the other version and the 3rd storyline as DLC for a lower price? Am I getting it right so far? The fact that they bundle both versions of the game in the special edition kind of gave me the impression you'd have to buy both physical copies of the game to get the most of it.

They gave up on the SMT x FE crossover idea pretty early on. It's just a FE spin-off now with SMT developers helping with the battle system and such.
That's why you don't announce projects early. I guarantee this wouldn't be hated nearly as much if people didn't know it was supposed to be a crossover originally. Most of the hate came from people that expected a legit crossover and didn't get it. Should have waited till they actually had stuff to show before announcing it.
