Magus is for edgelords and does pretty much nothing after you recruit him besides insulting Crono every now and then. He should have had some sort redemption arc during the Ozzie side quest or even better, a quest about the kingdom of Zeal and his sister who pretty much everyone forgets about after she dies.

You can get equipment that gives you permanent haste and then you don't have to be weighed down by a shit party member.

This is what I used my first run and I had a bunch of fun. Haste made up for the lack of a party heal(other than group techs).
