But he does that charge explosion attack and I have to move in fast to stop him, leaving me open to a combo when he recovers from the hit. I can't hit him more than three times without him recovering and flattening me. It's ridiculous.

yes, it has a range just like every other AoE attack. recognize his tell quicker and run away farther. the arena you fight him in is more than large enough to get to a safe distance, no matter where he's positioned.

the fight is about get a bit close to let him attack with the sword but not to close to step back and avoid getting hit. If you are too far he can teleport rigth infront of you and rape you quickly so just find the proper distance and wait he starts to load a light attack. Thats the moment you go with all you got and take him as many health as you can. In a few tries you will win for sure
