ITT: Games /v/ hates for no reason
>>
Memes appear in-game in literal billboards.

I loved it because I love foreign stuff based on my culture. It's like a love letter from someone that isn't romantic or poetic at all, but knows me and knows what I want to read.
>>
is jeb a character you can pick?
>>

Of course it would be hated, Super Turbo Championship Edition exists.

Had fun for 5 hours or so, nice exploration and discovery. Combat gets pretty tedious towards the end when difficulty = moar enemies with moar coloured aura bullshit.

Nothing against it, 7/10 for STCE.
>>

You do know Guacamelee was made by a guy from yucatan, right?

Grim Fandango did it infinitely better.

I wasn't aware of that, and I doubt he did it alone, still loved it and all of the little things they added, cuadrito is one of them.

>>334791882

Been reserving that game for when the right time comes, I know I will love it but the time is not here yet.

I enjoyed it since I got it for free.

Every mexican is brown and dumb. The main character is Juan fucking Aguacate and he's a luchador. He fights skeleton mariachis and shit. Do people think this is "good representation"?
I mean I liked the game, but the stereotypes and memes are shit. It didn't add to my enjoyment that the characters are mexican.
>>
>>334790552
It spammed memes
Because apparently, spamming shitty memes is only bad when someone else does it.
>>
See it from my POV - Being indie crap is already pushing it. Force memes and no stylistic choice in the world is going to make me play this garbage.
>>
It's a shame about the dumb memes that were apparently forced by a pretty small portion of the team.
Just the normal references are pretty well-handled, or subtle enough you won't notice them the first time.
Hell if they could patch the billboards and one tiny scrap of dialogue that'd pretty much solve the issue but the damage is already done.

Still in my top ten.
>>
>>334793195
What is context?
>>
>>334793110

Did you even read my post? Even mexican movies, series, comics, telenovelas and even paintings often misrepresent the culture, I don't know why but I, like many people here, enjoy exagerated stereotypes, el chavo, la india maria, los polivoces even low level comedy such as las nacas are exagerations of stereotypes.

Maybe because we are not pussies and we are able to differentiate between fiction and reality.

I can't imagine someone being so serious about internet memes that their presence in an otherwise fantastic videogame would render it completely unplayable.

It's a mood killer, the fact that the game is good is what makes the whole thing so sad, we can't say nothing of value was lost.
Also, wasn't Genghis Khan an ugly asian son of a bitch?

I actually played through this yesterday. It's alright. Just alright. The best part about it is probably the aesthetic and OST. The gamepaly is so by-the-numbers metroidvania that it's kind of boring, and the enemy variety isn't that good. There's some fun platforming bits, but ultimately there's just not much to the game.

Nigga what? What the hell metroidvanias have you been playing that are centered around grappling and combos?

How could you hate this game?

Dawn of the Dead themed beat em up with tight controls, a good soundtrack and badass art design?

I think you're making this up, op. I'd like to hear someone argue that this game was bad. Go on, now.
>>
>>334795994
I only WISH I could find more games that had sick grapples like Guacamelee.
Such a fun mechanic, the one challenge in El Infierno where you don't have access to grapples really highlights how useful they are.

Good game that's slightly tainted by constant references, and if they were discrete and just contained to the billboards I wouldn't mind (internet memes is still too much though), but it's constantly in your face and in dialogues and important plot points. Hell I thought the Chozo statues were kinda funny the first time I saw it, but then I realize it that it was always going to be like that, it wasn't a one time joke.
The worst part is the game has a lot of source for humor, they can pull a lot out of mexican and luchadore culture and instead they just use it as a setting and everything else just relies on shoehorned "referrence humor"

The gameplay is pretty good, and has great level design, although I'd like that the hard mode was actually hard.

Again, the cringy dialogue and bad humor doesn't make it a bad game, but it certainly taints it

The "memes" weren't even really that bad. Dashing Derpderp was the most egregious offender. I appreciated the nods to other video games, though.

Guacamelee is in my top 5 Indie Metroidvanias, along with Rabi Ribi, Bunny Must Die, La Mulana, and Cave Story. It's seriously that good. Great fighting system, challenges were decent, it wasn't a pain to 100%, the music ranged from alright to great, the variance in levels was appreciated, and the boss fights were really fun. The only negatives I can think of are the semi-uncommon memes, and even then, they're on easily ignorable billboards (most of the time)

It's Afterbirth most people hate, and not because it was a bad expansion, but because of the pricing, and because of the bullshit Nicalis pulled with it.

Honestly, if Edmund chose a more competent team to work with, Rebirth and Afterbirth would've been so much better. Nicalis is just indie-Gear Box.
>>
>>334790552
I liked STCE. The only downside I can think of is an unreasonable difficulty spike in some endgame areas like Treetops. I don't mind the difficulty itself, but the progression curve could have been better.
>>
>>334800837
I don't think people hate Afterbirth

>>334790552
I love this game
>>
>>334800970
No, it's pretty much just Afterbirth. Normal Isaac and Rebirth were beloved games. Afterbirth is when the series fell out of favor.
>>
>>334790552

The meme stuff was dumb as fuck.

That being said, the game was incredibly fun and the soundtrack was awesome.
>>
>>334800903
It's not really a difficulty spike so much as challenge area. Tree tops is closer to mid game, though.

The only thing I had a hard time with was the secret room in the mountains. Seeing Raocow struggle with the challenge rooms in El Infierno and then flawlessly do those made me feel fucked up until I went back and perfected them quickly.

It's not even edgy to point that shit out. Christians were pure cancer in the 90's and 2000's. They've only become the "underdog" now because they lost the culture war due to being the opposite side of the same SJW coin. They're the same kind of people, except one worships the melanin-enriched-vagina, and the other worships God.
