Regardless of your personal beliefs, there was nothing at all indicting this was a Kingdom Hearts situation with original characters and story, the teaser and X all pointed towards that type of fanservice crossover.
It was also odd it was simply a generic RPG, they had planned to make it more like FE by making you characters characters switch positions in battle and form walls and shit, but that was dropped because it would make the battles take too long.
The weirdest thing of all is how Fates feels like a dropped concept for SMT x FE.
Like Law vs Chaos with Neutral being the true path.
