What is your favorite sword in all of video games?
Not the 'best', simply your personal favorite

That's a tough one. Maybe this.
Rekt so hard with this beast on crpg

Absolutely YUCK
Long hafted blade, pike, Glaive, bec de corban, bamboo spear those were my lengthy pole weapons and spears generally on crpg.
>>334753476
What is this and why the rings?
I don't understand this design. Looks heavy for the length too.
Definitely the Epitaph from Monster Hunter.
I learned to use Great Sword just for this beast.
EXCALIBUR was a fucking great movie.

Easily this.
It's so clean and stylish, yet nowhere near overdesigned. A perfect "holy sacred sword".
The Witcher-specific swords in all the games always looked really good, especially the silver ones with the angled tines.
Also liked Altair's sword in the AssCreed games. The eagle head pommel and wing handguards look good while being nice and simple.

My sword needs some better representation.
Zweihander, although I am per usual of a staff wielder.
Elucion (Badly translated name)
Esperanza (The actual translation of its depowered form)
Legend of Heroes: Gagharv Trilogy. You get this sword in all three games, and in the second game, it has god sealed inside of it.At the end of the first game, it breaks as a symbol that the new generation should overtake the old. (Chronologically, the first game is the last in the timeline.)

>>334755243
They called it the pre-dragonslayer in the video title. Guess they hadn't actually read Berserk or just didn't give a shit. The other dude who made the actual dragonslayer a while back actually ruined his spine trying to swing the thing.
are you really feeling it?
>>334753139
Not sure what my all-time favorite is, but I want to bitch about this.
I want this sword.
This is the one sword in the game that doesn't look puny or stupid.
But it has a limited number of uses, and it takes a day to get it.

>>334755661

>>334753139
Lilacor, specifically from the Lilacor sword mod in Morrowind as opposed to the original Baldur's Gate one.
I just love that weapon. It is simple enough of a concept, but it works so well.
>>334755265
I've always wondered what those fucking bullets it comes with are for. It's a freaking sword.
>>334754412
there's only so much you could do with such a huge wealth of material, for basically an adaptation of Tennyson and Mallory it was probably as good as you could possibly get in a 2 hour movie, and in my opinion actually improved on some things (Merlin getting revenge and one last talk with Arthur before the end)
>>334753892
Igraine's dancing in the opening never ceases to make me laugh.
>>334756027
I think the consensus was that the energy was shot out rather than the bullets, because magic and shit.
Though i can't remember, it was written in an official art book or something.
>>334756027
I haven't played VIII in a long time, but when you fire the bullet it causes the blade to vibrate a lot or something.
>>334756027
It's dumb but I'll explain it.
The idea is that if you fire the bullets as you swing, it vibrates the sword and makes it cut deeper.
In game, it means if you hit the button as you hit you always do a Critical Hit.
Like I warned, it's dumb.
>>334756027
Its most likely batteries instead of bullets.
It has some sweet design, but it really lacks the small futuristic improvements that could have made it subtly look 10/10
Its basically a Giant Sword version of the Star Wars Vibroblades.
My guiding moonlight.
>>334753139
i fucking love machetes
>>334756053
>in my opinion actually improved on some things (Merlin getting revenge and one last talk with Arthur before the end)
Yeah, I agree. The fact they later substituted Bedevere for Merlin as the man returning Excalibur to the lake in that mini series with Sam Neill was one of the few things I really liked about it. There's just so much more gravitas to Merlin putting an end to what he began than Bedevere demonstrating his devotion to his king.

>>334757004
I wonder how fucking floppy a real washing pole would be?
>>334757056
Japanese swords flex a lot less then most other kinds, because of the hard edge component and just because they're so damn thick. I'd expect something that long to be pretty fragile just because of how (relatively) brittle it'd be.
>>334754964
Looks like shit desu
GW had a good Flamberge, and there's always Soul Reaver
Rapiers.
If they have the moveset. I was happy as fuck to get one in Dragon's Dogma. But then you just slam that thing like it's a club.
I loved challenging people on the Drake's bridge with Ricard's Rapier in DaS.
Thunderfury. It looks stupid as fuck but it calls to the child in me that loves stupid shit.
For a normal looking sword I guess the Silver Knight Straight Sword.

going with atma weapon, its a freaking magic lightsaber, obvious choice.
close seconds would be lionheart but its pretty much the same thing, or serahs sword-bow.
>>334758036
The 4th one would look really cool with a thinner blade
My favourite sword is the rapier, not the smallsword but the complex handguard and long thin blade.
But can't think of any games that have good rapiers. Souls and bushido blade have way to short blade, the estoc have a boring handguard.
Soul calibur Raphael have mostly silly fantasy swords, and ugly Spanish cupguard. And the same apply to Charlotte from samurai showdown.
Fire emblem, infinity engine games and alike don't have any that stands out, and often just more smallswords.
Same goes for dragon quest .
As for retarded sword ,maybe the ravager from monster hunter

I'm a sword fag,and I own an odachi(washing pole). It's not very flimsy or brittle due to the hard edge, as you stated. It's my personal favorite sword for target cutting. It is very heavy though, it feels similar to a zweihander I had. The problem is you have people like MAA who make light flimsy crap, and other odachi makers are afraid to add weight for sturdiness.
>>334753984
>stab someone from behind while playing the Star Wars intro theme
>>334759129
Is the odachi really that long though? I assumed it would be shorter than the washing pole
This summer I want to try making a sword. No complicated hand-forging, just buying about 40 bucks of tool steel already cut to the right dimensions, grinding that to shape and heat treating and tempering with a little clay brick furnace out in the field. Probably going to cremate myself by accident.

>>334759129
Modern Japanese swords are so much fun to cut with. I've got a katana made from T-10, probably made in China using the least traditional methods possible, and it goes through stuff with hardly any resistance, even in my useless baka gaijin hands.
>>334756873

>>334759278
You are correct, the Dark Souls washing pole has slightly too long of a blade. It seems especially bad in DaS2. They also give them handles that are way too small, which triggers my sword autism so I can't use it in game.
Mine is 67 inches, which is on the longer side even for this sword type..
>>334759573
Yeah, the cuts are very forgiving.
>>334753139

>>334754669
I actually agree with this, the Master Sword is an unusual case of Japan capturing European-style weapon design well without just copying something outright, and without making it look ridiculous. The broad blade looks pre-medieval, almost Roman, which makes sense because it's supposed to be an ancient sword. Fridge-brilliance.
>>334759468
That was a great piece of trivia from the bonus features.
>>334754068
Was there ever good vidya about King Arthur? I can only think of Knights of the Round and obviously that's a crazy beat em up typical of the time.
>>334759573
Yeah, it's more about the cross-section than superior nipon steel, honestly. Japanese swords are very wedgelike, which is why the comparison between them and European sabers is so misleading. Even similar weapons like messers and falchions tended to be thin and light rather than triangular.
Chainsaw sword
Stormbringer is my eternal swordfu. No game has ever done it properly, though. I suppose it would be kinda difficult, considering the fact that it gives you godlike power and eventually kills you and everyone you've ever cared about.

Combining that with modern technology and removing the Japanese dogma for tradition leaves you with a goddamn amazing sword. Basically all swords nowadays are made with steel infinitely better then what anyone had back then, especially the Japanese. Todays best swords are made from steel designed to make tools that cut other steels, so they can hold unbelievably sharp edges. My sword does have the traditional differential hardening, but also has a very subtle hollow grind, which is the exact opposite of what the ancient katana were edged like, but I dont give a shit because I can bisect saplings with this monster, and the ultra-strong, folded zero times steel lets that happen.
Dont think anyone will agree but I love the look of the nordic steel shoet sword in skyrims dragonborn dlc.
Shame every eso game basically forces you to use higher tier gear rather than gear you like the look of.
Just like mmos
>>334760241

TBQHWYF (To Be Quite Honest With You Family) the Arthur legend is basically obscure these days, despite so much of it being the origin or at least the inspiration of so countless many fantasy elements and cliches still in use today most neckbeards don't know fuckall about it, even /tg/ doesn't really seem very familiar with it. The general image of King Arthur is the fat jolly old king wearing white and red who sits in the fairy tale castle that looks like it belongs on a babies wallpaper, and not the dude who invaded Rome, killed a rapist child-eating giant by cutting his balls off and disemboweling it then rolled down a hill being crushed stabbing it to death with a dagger, or had over 500 confirmed kills at age 15 in a single battle.
Keifer Sutherland's dad said it best in a documentary, after all the centuries Arthur has become too overexposed and subject to tacky trivialization that everyone pretty much forgot the sources.

No, I mean the "Broadsword" code/cheat that turns them into something closer to a lightsaber.
Any strike that's not blocked will slice through a person's torso/limbs/neck and kill them.

Funny thing is, this goofy thing at least in the wii version of mh3 had the highest ar of all greatswords with its element unlocked

Personally, I only loved it as a casual weapon. I know it was pretty gay when it came to PKing.

The Nodachi in Bushido Blade.

I can't believe you're the only fucker to mention something from Bushido Blade so far.
Runner Ups:
The Shuraba in Bayonetta is stylin' and a bit overpowered,
The Master Sword, who doesn't love that shit.
The Beam Katana in No More Heroes is fuckin' great
Some fucker just wanted to smack bitches down with a fluorescent tube light.

From the D&D game of your choice

Good thing that has a bottle opener on the side to open my beers while I'm stabbing people

7th heaven from the Dark Cloud series.
A colorful design that embodies the jrpg whimsy of years gone by.

All my other favorites have been posted, but I'm a big fan of Cain's sword.

The Frostmourne replica has spikes on the center ring but the spikes on the smaller rings are really small/rounded off. They don't actually hurt at all to hold, and the rings make it surprisingly comfy. It's still too heavy to use as an actual weapon.

holy shit
One of my faves.
