Did they release the data from the server?
It being available could help to spawn a lot of other servers with their Vanilla stuff being spot on. Maybe Nost programmers/scripters weren't that good/gifted at doing their job, but they were hardworking as fuck and managed to get most of the stuff right.
It's just sad that they could manage to get AQ40 working, I heard that was one of the reasons that made them close down the server (because not many people close down after the first C&D from Blizzard). So people would start demanding for updates and shit.

Now, the Blizzard forums are one of the places that is most filled with shills, so it comes to no surprise that they will defend the current state of the game so strongly.
The only thing I can recommend you is to simply not going there, you won't find good discussion, because for every well argued and smart opinion, there are 100 posts that are complete dog shit. Vanilla WoW and it's experience will most likely die; everyone talented that worked on Vanilla, TBC and maybe WotLK has left; and the new people are too proud to change their ways.
Even if Blizzard puts out their own Legacy Servers, would you expect anything nice to come out of it? Do you really think that they would bring the complete experience full of frustrations and teamwork? I'm pretty sure that the Legacy Servers would add things like instant lvl 60s or microtransactions, because the motivation of Blizzard is to please the lowest common denominator, so they get hanged and re-sub.
