Yhorm's fight needed something else added to it, I personally love how his fight was a big Demon's souls reference (area before was also pretty Demon's Soulsy but thats besides the point), but reaching into your inventory to get storm ruler kinda breaks the start of the fight up in a big way, they should have at least given it a more recognizable icon so it could be found faster when you are looking for it in the inventory.

thrusting swords are OP as fuck. With poise meaning fucking nothing, they stunlock you, hit fast as hell, do fucking insane damage for their speed and have better crit damage. Add in the phantom range on any thrusting attack in any souls game. Nevermind being able to use them behind shields.

I summoned a dude at Wolnir's fog. I'd taken the alt route, so the bridge was in tact, and I didn't know about the collapse because fuck taking that suspicious bridge. Immediately after, I got invaded. The dude ran on to the bridge to trigger the skellies, then ran back. The invader ran onto the bridge with the whole horde of skeletons, and the white phantom proceeded to hack away at the ropes. Realizing what he was up to, I helped, and as the invader was halfway there, he and the skeletons fell to their demise.
I don't think I've ever had such a cool summoning experience. Thanks dude.

Abyss corruption most like. It lines up with the fact Gundyr gets it and all the enemies who spawn them have red eyes.
Only real issue is that the goopster they turn into has vague dragon features (even the pitch black ones have the little chalk white horns) and outside of Gundyr it's just the Lothric worshipers (both around dragons and in the garden) who turn into them.

I mean I'm leaning towards it being abyss corruption more than anything but at the same time I do see your points.
It's just really fucking coincidental on both ends. The black goop that looks most like dragon shit is on Gundyr who was fuck all to do with dragons as far as we know and his entire thing points to him getting that way after being stuck down in a dark shithole for years.
But then the goop has dragon like features but they're so fucking minor that I didn't honestly see the bone horns until NG+ on them. Then again everything in DaS sort of ends up looking like a fucking tree in the end so I don't know.
Maybe the best bet really is some sort of middle ground? Dragon and abyss related in some way? If not abyss then some dark fucking magic that's functionally similar.

It's not just demons though. Mostly everything in the Dark Souls universe ends up treelike in some capacity.
Archtrees themselves were one of the three big pillars of the world
Demons, as you said, are spawn of the bed of chaos
The bed of chaos is a result of trying to CREATE FIRE and the result is A TREE
The giants in DaS 2 end up all turning into trees
Hollows themselves have been argued to very much look like the dark sign's branching out a series of roots

Especially in DaS 3 do you see a lot of dead things turn into plants. Hollows turn into trees on the highwall (which in turn are butterflies later on), hollows turn into trees (seemingly normal trees) in the settlement, Greatwood exists (though a little too on the nose imo), and the demon ruins oldest demon corpses actually spawn mushrooms.
As much as people like to get fancy as fuck and spout "it's about ego death" and "it's a metaphor" and shit like that DaS truly does have a lot of tree stuff going on in the background.
Back to the abyss though. I do think the biggest issue is we never really get any solid clarification on the abyss, the dark, and now the deep (bad translation seems to be meme fodder at this point). Every game goes in a new direction with it.
Im lvl 46 in Irithyll and it is absolutely fucking me in the ass, I managed to get to Pontiff but I had to run away from the silver Knight because he one shotted me. Pontiff kills me in two hits, am I under leveled?

It was the best area in the game I've been to so far, spooky as hell. I don't even care that it's literally the first level of the tower of latria rehashed, it was really fun and is one of the few areas in the game that really nails atmosphere.
That mimic chest that also triggers like 6 frogs was the most fucked up trap I've encountered in a From game. And I about shit myself when that hollow screamed after picking up his item

I'd wager the DLC will focus more on Aldrich and his shenanigans, more specifically the Deep, and maybe we'll get some vague explanations as to how it fits into the Souls universe.
Aldrich and Pontiff Sully were too prominent in the lore with too few explanations to not get extra focus in the DLC.
