I mean the first anybody heard of it it was just some shitty game on a website that lets anybody post their garbage.
It was a game from a literally who with an idea that hadn't been explored too hard(creepy animatronics), with a lot of stuff hidden. So people go into it.

All of the games after 1 have some serious problems. 2 is too hectic and doesn't give any time to build tension after night 1. 3 made the jumpscares a gameplay mechanic rather than punishment for doing poorly. 4 is too easy to just circle around the room in a mechanical fashion. (not to mention the listening aspect makes it a shitty game for LPers who made the series popular)
