Was it a good console?
>>
>>334732958
Yes, some fantastic games. Several of my favorite games are on Wii.

Also the last console to get experimental titles from A-list game developers, before the move to HD killed them all off.
>>
It was okay, became a lot better once you could softmod it..
Wagglan wasn't the best way to play games, so I'm glad we're past all that and back to more traditional controls.
>>
Remote probably should've been just IR sensor, no accelerometer/gyroscope junk.

But it was a good console.
>>
>>334732958
it had some gems, but nah
>>
It was the worst console ever made until the Pii U came out.

2 stinkers in a row, exclusive on Nintendo(tm)
>>
>>334732958
Yes, it wasn't particularly powerful but the games were great and once the devs understood how to properly use (or ignore) the motion controls it got really good.
I also really fucking miss the Nintendo Channel
>>
>last bastion of widespread mid-tier development
>vast library of hidden gems
>some games did legitimately awesome things with the features

Yeah, I loved mine.

I didn't really like it. Could have been a lot better.

>>334732958
Objectively, it was a massive success. In my opinion? It was decent. Only a couple really good games.
>>
>>334734331
The Wii was a huge success, in terms of sales. The Wii U on the other hand... not so much.
But in Nintendo's eyes, they're still at 1 strike.

Worst I've seen and my first was an NES. Even the Jaguar and Saturn had more going for them. Wii was a poorly designed, underpowered, shit controller monstrosity that had all of 3 games worth playing.

Even the Wii U at least tried to give us something a little more with the times. Do we need 3 consoles that are just alike? Of course not. But you better believe when you go so far off the trail that devs will jump ship because putting a game on your box requires double the manpower. 3rd parties didn't come back for Wii U because they didn't want to add time programming in a use for the extra screen. Even the DS4 and it's touchpad are just simplistic ways to do what a typical controller does in most cases.

But seriously, this thing sold like a whore in a port and got 3 must play games and at best 7 ok games. Everything else was hot garbage. In 480p.

The Wii U suffered from the circlejerk:
1. Fans don't want to get it due to not that many games
2. Developers don't want to produce for it due to poor sales

Rinse, repeat since it was released.

Pretty good, VERY underpowered though. Also dislike how it mainly targeted casuals.
A softmodded Wii is god-tier though.

Yes. And a battery powered ir bar.
Although some Wii games which I don´t see the waggle being any use in (like mario galaxy) I play completely with a ds4

Nope, but /v/ will tell you otherwise, cause all their parents had or bought them Wiis.
>>
You can map Wiimote actions to buttons on Dolphin right? I always wanted to play Mario Galaxy 2 with an actual controller. And all that would be needed is the ability to map when you shake the wiiimote to a physical button.
>>
>>334732958
Most varied exclusives on 7th gen. Everyone pretends all it had was shovelware and Mario but there were plenty of great games.

>>334744383
>Just imagine if it was as powerful as the 360 and PS3
Then it would have been too expensive and had fewer games. It wouldn't have been the hit it was, it was popular because it was both a novelty with fun games and was relatively inexpensive. It launched at $250 while 360 was $400 and PS3 $600 and offered something they didn't.
>>
>>334733120
I agree with this, but Nintendo absolutely fucked up their chance to get third-parties on board with it. Also going after the casuals like that turned out to be a MASSIVE mistake. It was a flash in the pan.

But luckily, in addition to its impressive first-party AAA lineup, there were a number of more under-the-radar games to play on it, like No More Heroes and Sin & Punishment 2.
>>
>>334738810
STILL have the second game to play. I want to look for the first even though the second game is supposedly better in every way.

I'm primarily the sort who plays a lot of action titles, but I love games that try to do something different and I'd love to play something that were just relaxing for once too.
>>
>>334733120
>>334743779
This, AA and risky/niche games are all but entirely dead at this point.

Big publishers just want the next AAA blockbuster and nothing else, they can't/won't sustain themselves on smaller titles and the money that would be spent on one is funneled into making a CG commercial with zero gameplay for CoD's marketing campaign instead.

Also why I feel Wii U had next to no support, 3rd-parties just want AAA blockbusters and the audience for those games isn't on Nintendo's platforms. AA/niche games on small budgets would have fit perfectly on Wii U, but nope, publishers just want their huge blockbusters that have to sell 10 million copies to break even.
>>
>>334745376
>but Nintendo absolutely fucked up their chance to get third-parties on board with it
3rd-parties want a specific kind of game aimed at a specific audience, and that audience is not playing on Nintendo's platforms. It's not a matter of hardware, it's demographics. Nintendo selling an expensive console at a loss to court 3rd-parties who weren't interested in the first place due to demographics would bury them. 3rd-parties also want more control over the platform than Nintendo is willing to give them and want to do business differently, lots of DLC, season passes, ads on the dashboard, timed content deals, etc. etc.

Nintendo doesn't want that. The audience 3rd-parties want for their blockbusters isn't there and they're no longer making AA/niche games, no reason to even glance at Nintendo now. Better hardware won't change that, it won't make millions of customers start buying games with moutains of DLC like Battlefront on NX.

>Also going after the casuals like that turned out to be a MASSIVE mistake
Not really, brought in tons of money. Sony and MS have done nothing but lose money on the PS and XB brands over the last 10-15 years catering to 3rd-parties with higher-end hardware. They both rely almost entirely on 3rd-party software support to prop up their platforms, and it bit MS and the Xbox brand in the ass very ,very hard. The audience they had under their thumb last gen largely jumped ship to PS4. Nintendo just botched the Wii U launch really hard.

Why separate mario and shovelware?
>>
>Rogue Squadron 1+2+3 port with 1:1 motion+ lightsaber duels and upgraded graffix was 100% completed and EA scrapped it when they obtained the rights to star wars

I will never not be mad. It needs to fucking leak.
>>
>>334732958
No.

It had a few decent games, but a ton of shit and shovelware. Also had no games like the last 2 years of its life cycle.
