Yes, I do. People tend to massive underestimate how much effort is required in games development. No individual single thing is hugely difficult or innovative, but there's a huge variety of time-consuming shit involved and executing and polishing it is really hard, especially as a one-man band. The guy is a fucking freak.

If he had a team of half-a-dozen people and outsourced shit then doing it in 18 months or so should be easy enough.

I don't get why people are understating his accomplishment, especially when Chris Sawyer gets a ton of credit for RCT when that was a much easier in many ways (i.e. he adapted the engine from another game, he got help with art assets, the scale of the game is way smaller, way less writing and variety in gameplay).

Yes. But the Sawyer had a ton of background in assembly and already had a working engine from Transport Tycoon, so it's not quite as crazy as it might seem.

People without much experience in assembly tend to overestimate its difficulty, especially when you're not working as part of a team.

not really, while Stardew valley has more content, Cavestory had a hell of a lot more work put into nearly everything, as a developer, you really cannot begin to imagine how crazy eh pumped that shit out in like 3 years was.

just the fact he made one of the better indie soundtracks.. I mean, ACTUAL Triple A studios have been inspired by these tracks.

Yes I am salty because I didn't get enough funding for Catmouth Island and the game didn't turn out to be as good as it could have been. At least the game is finished and out, and cost a whole lot less to make than that unfinished game.

I think one of my favorite things about Cave Story is that the story is really simple, in a good way. He doesn't need 5,000 cutscenes to explain the plot. There's a few here and there, but they're mostly necessary. The game doesn't do filler that much.

Although in terms of storytelling, I prefer La Mulana.

La Mulana has less tracks, but they're just as memorable. Giant's Cry, Giant's Rage, Ancient History, Mr. Explorer. High Speed Beast, Moonlight Dance, Mr. INFERNO, Sabbat, Interstice of the Dimension, and so on and so on.

I love it when bosses have their own tracks, instead of sharing a common one.
