Depends on what you're looking for. IWD and ToEE are pretty good if you want some combat oriented games as a change from PS:T's story focus. BG 1+2 will give a great feeling of going on a motherfucking adventure and they have enough content to keep you busy for a long time.

Every time I go back to these gems I hate building my character. Prefabs are never right for what I want but going through picking everything is a chore. Not a big deal in a couple of them since I saved the templates I like but I got IWD2 not long ago and making my entire party just keeps me from wanting to start.

I need to go back and finish NWN2 now that I think about it. Got distracted by other games a couple of months ago but I really liked the world and level design. Except the city. Fuck that place being so big when you just want to go buy some stuff.
>>

>>
>>334705129
You have to consider, most commoners would probably make 1 or 2 gold in a month. Baldur's Gate just didn't bother with coppers and silvers for simplicity's sake. 16 gold would be a lot to your average peasant.
>>
Hey guys, I was thinking about playing Torment as a thief. What kind of stat distribution do you guys suggest? In thinking about starting with 18 wis, 17 int and then raising dex>str>con. Also, much dex is too much dex?
>>
>>334705129
Anon people in D&D don't normally have hundreds of thousands of gold. 5 gold is enough to feed a family for a month, and for a few thousand golds you can buy a castle.
These games throw legendary treasures at you like candy, so of course you're mad rich from selling all those.
>>
>>334705508
Play the 2E games then.
>>
>>334705726
>>334705873
If that's the case then why can you sell these extremely valuable, extremely rare items anywhere? Especially when just ONE of those items would immediately elevate the lowliest of peasants to the richest of princes due to its value?

No regular merchant in the world is gonna have the dosh for that shit.
>>
>>334706161
Convenience/ease of use.
There are games where merchants have a limited amount of money (Fallout) and it's fucking annoying.

In Fallout 2 you can just pick up weapons from patrol encounters at the start of the game then sell them at SF for maximum dosh.

That's arpg for you. Don't diss the genre just because you like different things.
>>
>>334706510
There should be be one on gamefaqs.
Off the top of my head:
lvl1: sleep is godlike, mage armor is good, magic missile starts being very good level 5+. Prot from evil is very good against evil enemies that have charm or similar spells, like vampires.
lvl2: horror is like improved sleep. mirror image is second best defensive spell in the game. melf's acid arrow scales very nicely.
lvl3: mostly fireball and flame arrow.
lvl4: Stoneskin. This and mirror image will keep you alive for a very long time.
Protection from magical weapons is also really good, but that's more like mid-BG2 level.

Anyway, on low levels it's mostly Mage Armor and Mirror Image that keeps you alive.

There might be some spells that don't exist in 2E or are different level, honestly I've been playing 3E games recently so it's a bit of a mix in my head.

It isn't that hard to get for 2e.

The THAC0 is just the minimum roll you need to actually hit a guy with armor class 0. Then you subtract the actual enemy armor class from your THAC0 to get the actual roll you need to hit.

Say your THAC0 is 13 and the enemy has an armor class of 2. That means you need a minimum roll of 11 to hit the opponent.
>>
>>334708210
No, but it's useful. You will find plenty of magical items, so you can get equipped without crafting.

To be honest it's not good enough to warrant 2 feats, so I usually console cheat in the craft magical weapons and armor and craft wondrous items feat for my mage.

NWN2 OC crafting tl;dr
Skills:
Craft armor and craft weapons create nonmagical items, like adamantite sword or mythril armor. These can have bonuses against demons or undead, or a slight damage bonus. If you use these base items to create magical items, these bonuses are carried over, so it's better than enchanting a simple normal item. These skills are standalone, and you can have it on a warrior or whatever other companion. You do NOT need the feats on the same character as this, nor the ability to spellcast.

Craft trap should be obvious. You need set trap skill to actually use them, and realistically a rogue.

Craft alchemy creates not just potions, but also extracts essences from various items. Essences are needed for all magical crafting, so it's important to have this on someone.

Feats:
Craft wondrous items lets you create accessories like cloaks or rings, anything that's not armor or weapon.
Craft magical armor and weapons lets you add magical attributes to items, like fire damage or +3 enchantment.
These two feats are standalone from the above skills and they do not need to be on the same character at all.
>>
>>334709965

>>
>>334710557

>>
>>334710557
Obviously both of your classes will be lower level than a pure class character, but your HP and your BAB/THAC0 will average out between the classes and will be on a similar level as a pure class.
Multiclassing will not put you to a disadvantage.

Oh, alright. It's just me being a sucker for collectibles. Like how can I throw away this based armor made out of red dragon scales which I got after the hardest fight of the entire OC? Doesn't matter if I'm a monk and won't ever use it, it's a trophy.
On the other hand, I have tons of "crafting materials" like dragons blood, faerie dust, gems etc. which I keep because I wondered if I'll ever need those. Should I just vendor all of this crap?

In 3E, you get no penalties as long as your classes are roughly the same level, and you get no penalties whatsoever if you take your race's favored class + another class.

If anything, starting multiclass from the beginning suck less than taking up a second class later.

CPRG threads are too diluted. You can't have a thread of 30 different games. There isn't really a lengthy discussion about any game, just one or two questions and answers. That only works on /vg/ because threads stay alive for hours without bumps.

Also mentioning D&D brings in the 2E vs 3E shitposters who give free bumps

>>
Why are rogues so worthless?
In NWN/NWN2 half of the enemies are immune to sneak attack, and in both games it seems the AI is programmed to always switch targets to the rogue, denying sneak attacks anyway.
Also 90% of the time the enemy spots Neeshka with maxed hide from 20 yards, so they are even trash as a scout. I found myself having to cast Invisibility on them just so they can look around without being detected.

They are even more worthless in 2E with their once per combat backstab (or invis potion spam just so they can do damage).

NWN is great but don't judge the quality of the games from their original campaignd. The expansions are much better and separate from the OC

I never understood why there aren't any 4E video games. That F2P MMO doesn't count since it doesn't actually use any 4E mechanics.

I mean even the 3.x cultists who hate 4E usually claim it feels more like a videogame than an actual roleplaying game.
>>

I played a shifter monk once and it was neat. With 21 levels in monk though I'm not sure what you would multiclass into.

More like it feels like a generic MMO engine. I don't think that a PnP feeling like a casual videogame is ever a compliment.

Deekin a boss

Meeting him in NWN2 was great. Especially since your character from NWN2 knows nothing about him.

Examine him, and he is listed as Impossible.
When you ask where he has been, he timidly tell you that he's been to Undrentide and very deep below Waterdeep.

Started playing NWN2 some time ago. I've completed MotB back when it was released, but never the OC, which I aim to do now and continue on to MotB after that.

Playing as a Lawful Evil Favored Soul, gonna take few Blackguard levels later. Now I understand that at the end of the game you can opt to join the King of Shadows. If I do this, can I import that character into MotB? I think not, but I would like to know.

that's not the issue, so much as when you get gibbed/any effect that results in a death that can't be res'd from at the moment our biggest problem has been confusion, so our solution is to run 5/6's of the party as a berserker
>>
>>334720519

Because it's impossible that someone played that trash and didn't like it, right?

There's also the dumb primary stat stacking.

>Because it's impossible that someone played that trash and didn't like it, right?
No, it's impossible that someone played that trash and not realise that even a basic level 1 Fighter has at least 5 or 6 different attacks, compared to the 1 you get as in 3.5. Claiming that it feels like an MMO because it only has 2 attacks is at the same time proof that you don't know what you're talking about, and a stronger indictment of the version you're defending than of the one you're complaining about.

>Like mage powers dealing more damage with more intellect
Compared to 3.5 Wizards who were just flat out the best by default, that's a massive improvement.

>too much dependency on gear, power creep, and so on
That's just blatant bullshit.

I have nothing against people hating 4E. I'm not the biggest fan either, but then I think that all versions of D&D are garbage and the only ones I can stomach are 2E AD&D and 4E. But what I am against is people bashing games they never played using arguments that make no sense.
>>
>>334721440

there are countless scenarios where you

a} don't know you're about to go into combat
b} just got dispelled
c} can't keep it up on the entire party at all times

i don't think you realize how demanding a hardcore playthrough of BG2 truly is

so far the most effective strategy has just been to exploit berserker dual classing

It's a fact that it's possible, but that doens't mean it's what combat is all about. Unlike 3.x, which is all about spamming one attack (either you stand still and Full Attack all day, or you Charge all day to stack them bonuses) for non-casters.

>something I threw in as an exaggeration
Making shit up only hurts your point, so next time try not to lie when people ask you a question. And all your other complaints made no sense either.

the tl;dr is that the core design philosophy for 5th ed was to go with improved game flow and I feel that they did a great job at streamlining the experience without sacrificing depth. This is streamlining done right, not dumbing down.

-I like what they did with the classes. They updated them and made them all feel fun and unique with fun twists in mechanics to add flavor and less homogenized.

-Lots of Feats have been thrown out the window because of how banal 50% of them were. No one cares about a Feat that gives you +1 to Save throws vs traps. Instead Feats now are more meaningful where they act as bigger game changers for your characters instead of being more miniscule improvements that you pile upon your character.

-The updated Vancian magic system is genius, imo. Instead of having a bunch of variants of the same spells (Cure Light Wounds, Cure Moderate Wounds etc.) you instead have one spell that can be memorized in different level slots and that will improve the spell (a heal spell memorized in a level 1 slot heals 1d8, in a level 2 slot heals 2d8 etc.)

-WotC are bringing back all the cool but niche settings for 5th ed which have been getting shoved around since 3.X ed. Dark Sun and Ravenloft have their own flavor books again.

Under average i'd say. Has nothing to do with D&D other than the setting and it plays more like an action game like Diablo
>>
>>334724124
The company folded so don't expect any updates. It's not 5th ed, they did a bait and switch with the advertising. It's a straight up action game inspired by D&D. I'd say that the Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance games are closer to the actual D&D rules than SCL is. I wouldn't bother with the game, it's garbage. Monsters scale to your level, so unless you're OK with level 1 Beholders, avoid.

The most fun is with 2 rings of wizardry. Then you remember 30 magic missles on you wizard and spam it al lat one second.

That's not how modules and ready adventures work. And even then, that's a pipe dream. Most GM's run heavily railroaded adventures or give the illusion of choice, because _true freedom_ is still incredibly had to pull off in PnP without the game derailing and becoming an aimless snoozefest.
