Thing is, Techradar's sources said this game takes place WELL before Red Dead Redemption.
My guess is that it's potentially in the 1820s, nearly a hundred years before Redemption. That would make it so none of the characters in RDR are born yet, but the Wild West is in all its glory.
I've been waiting 6 years for any announcements, leaks or anything for rdr and now it's finally happening.

They will try to keep the bittersweet feeling from RDR. But since it's a prequel they can't bet on the "end of an era" feel.
I think they will play on the fact that it's the golden age of the West and that Ricketts is young to give a lively and heroic feel to the game at least in the beginning until the middle.
Then Landon's actions will somehow ricochets (non english here, I don't remember the term to use when an action you have done later affect you in some way). Thinking he is invincible he would have surely made a lot of ennemies (maybe Dutch) along the years not all of them dead by his hands. So the surviving ones could come later into the game and hurt and kill the people Landon loves.
The ending would be bitter in the sense that Ricketts understand you can't be a hero and escape the consequences. After his wife and kids and whatever die, he would take revenge on all his old ennemies, killing all of them like ending C in GTA 5 but even more badass. The game would become grimmer and grimmer during the course of the game, finishing on an overly violent and vengeful last note where Landon rekt everyone.
At the end, he is on his horse, soaked with blood that isn't his and wondering where will he go now that he's lost everything.

Like someone else already mentioned, I'd probably be happier with a decent PC port of RDR from the PS3/360.
I really want to get excited because I loved the shit out of Redemption despite the flaws, I'm just extremely wary about how badly Rockstar could fuck up after the success of GTAO.

Also what's all this talk of swamps and gators? Wouldn't it be too cold for that seeing as though it's northeast of Black Water and Tall Trees had snow? Or was Redemption set in the winter months?

Well RDR didn't really had realistic climate in the eastern part of the map.
Thieve's Landing swamps next to Blackwater's temperate plains and to Tall Trees snowy forests.
It's all just scrambled into one part of the map.
New Bordeaux and the new bigger swamps are at the same level as Blackwater and much farther so it could make sense.
Keep in mind that this is the southern part of the new game. My guess is that the map will have colder landscapes, with forests, mountains, all that...
Or they might retcon the climate thing and make it so it's also hot enough to have deserts and shit. It works too.
