What I think is that he really felt grateful to Corrin for letting him live and didn't want him or her to be killed by Garon, but he knew that it was more probable that Nohr was going to kill all of Corrin's army and then him for being a traitor, but if he played like he was on Garon's side and asked for him to forgive Corrin then both could be saved, he didn't count on Garon being a dick tho
