Doesn't stop faggots from complaining about Ocarina of Time when it's nearly 20 years old. Newfags are bat at vidya, have shit taste, and try to play retro for 5 minutes, then watch a few lets plays and skip around and think they have "the jist of it" and then proceed to shitpost here thinking that it makes them appear to have good taste.

Fucking. Disgusting.

Considering that he's dead and pretty much became irrelevant during the last few years of his life, I don't care.

Also he had shit taste. He specifically hated the movie Blue Velvet because he felt Isabella Rossellini was treated poorly by having to play the character Dorothy even though she consented to it and didn't mind. AKA Ebert was just sweet on Isabella Rossellini and was upset that David Lynch was hitting it but he wasn't.

It's a pretty cool tech demo but not a very good game. Most Collosi are just one-note puzzles that usually involve waiting for them to do a certain move. Despite how big and intimidating they are there's not much chance of dying thanks to how slow they are in comparison to your generous regenerating health bar that you can even increase the length of.
>>
>>334673095
I still don't understand. They're not mutually exclusive- like science/math and art, they inform and influence one another. Is it non-STEM and non-art people saying this?

You do not create football in the same manner you do a video game - Football is strictly played, video games are weaved together and become a greater sum by small pieces. Your comparison is completely nonsensical, and you should feel bad about it, anon.

Take this into consideration as well: Video games, even if you regard it not as art, have components of art. Music, acting, the concept drawings behind the world that is crafted, these are all art, so video games consists of art, and does that not make it so?

Really, though, how adamant you feel about video games not being art, is really only based on the cringe worthy connotation it brings with it. I understand your apprehension, because of all these pretentious pseudo-intellectuals and their insistence that being art makes something inherently more valuable. Remember, art is just the definition we use to describe something created by humans, mostly driven by creativity

True enough. Disregarding this, however, still brings us back to the creation of a video game. How is this process not art, but writing a book, filming a film and playing music is considered so?

When the game came out if was something pretty new for kids at the time, and they were all used to sometimes wonky PS2 controls. This was the time when "Triangle" was still used as the "Back" button rather than the now more appreciated "X/O" system.

Replaying this game now, yeah it's pretty garbage. Despite the atmosphere and feel of the bosses the game doesn't hold up. Majority of kids today would get piss bored.

Not because they want to go back to GTA5, but pretty much because there's nothing unique about the game anymore. "Cinematic experiences" are pretty common now.

Stuff like Journey captivates kids now rather than SoTC.

Actually true, thankfully this was fixed on the remaster

>Awful controls

Just because it doesn't control like mario doesn't mean its shit. The controls were responsive, but deliberately clunky.

They clearly wanted to simulate the feeling of disempowerment, the idea that wander isn't a super soldier, just a normal guy. Not every game needs to be fast and arcadey.

>why is it so highly regarded?

Above all else it was just really original, there hasn't been a game like it since. If anything I can say it's one of the bravest games made, games now try desperately to market it's spectacle and the amount of content but SOTC had the balls to ditch all that and just give us boss enemies and an otherwise empty map.

This whole thread and beaten-to-death debate are utterly pointless.

If I want to interpret Shadow of the Colossus as a piece of art, then I will. I will pay money for it, enjoy playing it, talk about it, muse over how it utilizes the pairing of narrative and game mechanics in order to create an empathetic response in players, and there isn't a thing anyone could say to make me think otherwise.

I see it as art because I give it value. I don't just mean monetary value either. If an object or thing created by a human has the ability and intent to stir something inside of a person, then I believe it to potentially be art.

>where you cant stop exploring what it has to offer.

This, exploration is at its greatest when its out of your own genuine interest. After taking on the first few colossi I found myself not wanting the game to end because each was so unique in scale, behaviour, environment, visual design etc.

The actual map managed to have lots of personality and character despite literally consisting of nothing.

its quite amazing how little we really know about this game

team ico are so good at building a world that feels real. not tailored by the devs for the player but rather just a place you're put into and have to find your way.. open world was a great format for them, i wish there was more exploring in Ico because the world is just so nice to be in, but it was really cool that the whole castle was linked up

Dude that actually happened...

oh yeah, also forgot
all the kids having horns in ico are connected to (you) after being born with the horns and the one that really got me
the girl you saved in SotC is the Queen in ico

no she isn't

Not him, but I the thought crossed my mind

prove she isnt
or at least post more evidence than the amount of proving she is

It's nonsensical you autist. They look and act completely different and there's no reason to think they're the same person.

>someone looks and acts differently over time
wow, thats a good argument

prequel or sequel
im betting on prequel as everything wooden instead of stone like the other games
>>
>>334679363
did you think the 2 games are only like 3 years apart or something?
notice how the temple has literally hundreds of kids with horns?
>>
>>334679660
maybe a prequel and the cat thing grows into one of the colossus you kill in sotc
>>
>>334678136
>i didn't even know you could stand up on aggro, or lean off the side until i had completed the game twice, it never tells you. or that you could ride the birds/fish, or secret garden
the idea of instant gratification won't allow them to explore or try new things. i remember the term was pretty big only a few years ago. now, people have seemed to forget about it

This is true, but the game is still playable. Just play on an easier difficulty if things get too shitty.

For anyone wondering, I think he's referring to the fact that in the Remastered version, movement/shaking of the Colossi have a slightly greater effect on the main Character, so you find yourself flailing around while holding on for dear life more often.

A couple of the battles were so ridiculous that I Eventually looked online to see if something was up with the sensitivity of the shaking.

i didnt know about any of those till i decided to look into the achievements for once to see all the stuff like riding that one lard hawk and rising the fish and all the horse tricks.
first time i ever thought achievements were a neat thing

I think the original PS2 version might actually be more expensive than the remake because of how rare and sought after it has become.
