Earth Defense Force for me.
Like, I hate bugs but the graphics weren't exactly the best so I thought I would be fine.
I wasn't.
the bad graphics made everything worse, especially the levels where you go into insect nests. It's so claustrophobic, there are bugs hanging from every surface and they're just skittering and swarming all around you...

Those singing brain lady things from Bloodborne. I remember walking by while grinding and hearing this weird humming noise. I pause my music and look all over and see some bitch walking and humming this creepy ass tune. Then I found out I had to go down there for that moon rune. It was a horrifying experience.

are you really this ignorant?

The way they move is so disturbing too. They just kind of snap around to different directions really fast. The fact that they're so huge makes it so much worse.

In the games you obviously get the sense of them being horrifying, and the gravemind is obviously more or less an animated pile of corpses mashed togther, but you don't really get it till you read the books, where whenever they show up the books become more horror then sci fi. The above video is pretty much a straight adaption from 1 chapter in novel version of combat evolved.
The forerunner trilogy in particular ends up gradually going from "very dull and dense hard scifi" to "post apocalyptic wasteland story but in space on megastructures" to "deranged fever dream psychological horror" to"what if all of the really rad shit about 7 winged flaming swords and angel rebellion with stars being used as weapons and shit was written by lovecraft?"
