>VR was supposed to aid with immersion in already great first person piew games
>VR can't be done with standard movement controls without causing nausea to half the userbase
>Requires you to move your head around like a spastic
>Asks you to use waggle controls like the Wii
>The Vive asks you to have a 2 meter by 2 meter square space in the place you play, sometimes even bigger
>Technology and games for it are overly expensive
>Games required to run at 90 frames per second, which means they look way shittier than the average game by default
>Some of the games for it aren't even fucking first person view
>Literally will only ever be good for vehicle simulators like driving or flying games.

VR might be the future of some media, but video games are most certainly not in that category.

>YFW the fad hasn't even begun yet
>YFW we're in for at least five more years of developers wasting their time and resources making games for VR for casuals to chew up, just like the Wii

The future is here.

So I've heard framerates lower than 60 cause the visuals to bug out and start flashing white. If so that's fucking hilarious seeing how 95% of the games and "developers" making games for the VR devices use pre made game engines and can't program for shit.

Got my vive friday, played almost non stop but now my abs and back muscles hurt.

Test purchase I've ever made OP. Videos on youtube cant show how fantastic this shit is.
>>
>>334586961
Even when the visuals don't fail in a spectacular way, if the frames are inconsistent and start going below 90, you will most certainly start getting nauseated.
V.R. also deals terribly with any kind of internet lag. People complaining about lag and hitches in stuff like EVE Valkyrie and Hover Junkers

Buyer's remorse kicking in 3... 2... 1...
Unless you're rich as fuck, but even then your Vive will be gathering dust in no time

>VR might be the future of some media,
It's not even good for some of the announced ones, like museums or arcade, because of hygiene issues, and lack of reliability/solidity. training surgery is also out of the question because of the lack of physical feedbacks which is 100% of what you should learn to do. The tech is going nowhere because despite spending billions on R&D they forgot to find a viable market for it before hand.

I could see it becoming big in Education, at least.
>>
This wasn't the first and won't be the last time this cycle happens. 20 years from now, some faggot will come in and tell us how V.R. is totally different now and will work well.

People refuse to accept the idea that V.R. gaming is a flawed concept from the get go, no matter how well you execute it.

>Education
You mean, the current Education system that still rune 15 year old MMX machines? The current education system where theft is literally the only reason they have to even renew their shit? Good luck with that.

I'm talking globally.
>>
>>334587571
define "globally" cause for me you are smoke screening the problem
>>
>>334587817
I can see it being used in schools in Norway and South Korea half a decade from now, for example.
>>
>>334588102
to teach what?
Also norway has 5 million people it's the opposite of "globally" it's a fucking small city.

>I have to move my head to look at things LIKE A FUCKING MORON AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGHHH
What a stupid complaint.
>>

Worst case it will become my workout machine.
I can't get enough from playing audioshield.

I streamed some of it but when I look back at the video it looks lame as fuck. You need to experience this shit once at least.

And the most important shit is having the motion controls. Anyone who bought an oculus made a big mistake.

Jumping in here, I was recently visiting a simulation centre for marine equipment in Norway.

It does seem like a cheap replacement for some of the simulators they have.

Currently there are large domes with projectors projecting an image onto the inner walls, providing a simulated screen.

In the centre of the dome, there is a bridge mimicking a ship bridge.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-h9412TvmQ&t=1m50s

VR-headsets are no replacement for this, however I can see it having some applications for smaller modules or merely just as observers floating around.

You'll probably feel the nausea just from watching that video, it really is that effective in real life. Even though the floor is perfectly still, you actually feel as if it is moving.
>>
The fact you can't walk normally in a VR game without getting nauseous is a huge problem. Room scale and the teleportation gimmicks prove VR is fucked.
>>
I'm getting a PSVR just for Ace Combat 7, and there is LITERALLY nothing you can do to stop me!
>>
>>334586178
>>334588880
Can't you use a controller for games?
>>
>>334590246
Talking about looking. it'd be pretty pointless to bind your head movement to a controller when you can just look at what you want to look at. That's like the main point of VR.
>>
>>334589513

May I know, why the fuck is sea making a curve like that?

of course one would get nauseous from that. Holy shit.

I only want VR for:

>Horror Games
>FPS
>Porn / Waifu SImulators

So far its been doing great on those areas, with room for improvement, anything else is just a bonus.
>>
>>334590153

Okay, who cares.
>>
>>334586178
They advertised it as VR. It's not. It's taping a screen to your face. People realized that.
>>
>>334591086
It may shock you, but did you know the Earth is round!
>>
>>334591086
What do you mean curve? A slight curve at the horizon, or do you mean that the sea rises and falls?

The first one is how it works in real life m8.

The second is because the boat is moving, floating on the waves..
