I know it's the black sheep of the series but I still love it. The setting of Room 203 if fantastic and the hauntings are one of my favorite bits in the series.
There are just some choices I find baffling the camera is so awkward the game not being tank controls is just dumb it doesn't fit, makes looking around a chore a combat a shit. The heath bar is an eye sore there was no reason to make that change besides to trigger people.
It also looks worse than SH3
I still find it underrated but with glaring flaws.

Good game. Great story and narrative that really draws the player into the tragic and frightening nature of Walter and everything supernatural.
I have no desire to replay it, ever. I can't deal with the hauntings and ghosts.

It was ok, I just wish it was a different IP, it being a direct sequel just set the expectations too high, especially after how well the games before it were received.

Yes anon, but remember in wich year SH3 was released? the FPS console cancer was spreading and almost everyone was hyped for halo 2 and all the other CIA sponsored propaganda games. No one gave a fuck about scary nip games anymore, everything was about shooting aliens and your friends in the face with your friends and capcom took notice in RE4

The problem of Silent Hill's erratic sales is something which I believe was a factor in Konami cancelling Silent Hills. Kojima blew 80 million dollars on MGS V. How much was he going to spend on a game where some of the most acclaimed entries sold 500,000 copies at best?
