What's the last game you played that genuinely scared you?
>>334502408
MGS3 - The Sorrow Boss Fight
I want vr just for horror games
Cry of Fear
>>334503010
That portion of Scarface where the guy gets dismembered by the chain saw in G minor.
peanus weanus
Grabbing the flag in CTF and feeling like the entire enemy team is right behind you
>>334502408
Probably the first F.E.A.R. mainly because I was 10 when it came out for the Xbox 360. Prior to that was Doom 3, in which I was 8 years old. So, as of now, I will be turning 20 in June, so, I'm pretty null to the sense of what a horror game should feel like, as I do not get scared.
Fallout 4
Probably the first STALKER
>>334503321
i'm with you on that but it was Extraction Point for me. replayed it since its been so long and forgot most of what went on
>>334503321
Holy fuck I didn't realize Fear came out almost 11 years ago...
Well that made me feel old real quick.
>>334502408
milons secret castle
SOMA scared the crap out of me. I love horror games, but I'm a fucking wimp.
>>334502408
Besides the jumpscare ones?
the first amnesia game, but before that the first AvP game, because of the motion tracker, I couldnt finish the marine campaign.
>>334503710
bullshi-
>he is right
What the fuck man, guess time just flies when you get shit FPS games over a whole decade.
>>334502408
Xenoblade Chronicles3Dgot a jump out of mewhen the spider appeared. You know the one.
>>334503901
How is SOMA? I enjoy horror games myself but I didnt like the idea of another hide-n-seek/no combat styled game
Layers of Fear. Despite the mediocre showing it was pretty great. Definitely needs VR support
My standards for a good horror game is if it can give me sweaty hands, then it passes.
>>334504057
Great atmosphere.
Monsters are annoying, nothing more and its just that, hide and seek shit, which is sad, considering the possibilities with you being underwater and such, I would have wished for more enviromental hazards and such
Nocturne in Yellow.
Amnesia the dark descent. All alone, headphones, no lights on. Kept looking over my shoulder to make sure I wasn't about to be murdered.
I feel like a fucking twat for saying this , especially since I played games like Amnesia and resident evil ok.
But, it wasLuigi's Mansionthat spooked the shit out of me on occasion.
Not really a game I guess, but I really felt Keiichi's paranoia in the first arc of Higurashi.
>>334502945
I played the whole fight with zero volume because of this
>>334503104
I still hear the chainsaw dudes' screams in my nightmares, not even joking.
I had this going into games machine
>>334502408
Was playing King's Field 2 exploring the termite den. Nothing too scary. Suddenly a termite on a higher level dropped on me and scared the living shit out of me.
>not one mention of PT
Why you lying /v/?
>>334504802
Those paintings in the first room freaked me out when they started talking
>>334503564
When I replayed the game around 5 years ago, so around Freshman or Sophomore year of high school, I played through Perseus Mandate, which, thinking about still kind of gives me a visceral feeling to this day.
penumbra black plague for sure, scariest video game imo
>>334505854
I've yet to play any of the Penumbra games. Is it true it's just a better Amnesia?
>>334505632
I've honestly forgot PT even existed.
>>334506841
>just a better amnesia
wat, it can feel similar due to same dev/similar engine, but not really
both are great games, but black plague is far scarier because you cant kill your assailants, in overture you can kill the dogs chasing you (you dont have to, but you still can do it), in black plague it aint like that
i recommend trying overture first
>>334507010
I usually play games via release order. Which of the two came first?
>>334507165
overture
I didn't know about paralogue 22's gimmick and brought my strongest guys in
I somehow managed to bullshit my way through it anyway
>>334507268
Alright, thank you for the info!
Minecraft
Paper Mario 64
I was fighting Bowser and I ran out of items, BP, SP, etc and I had 2 health. It came down to a turn where either I killed Bowser with the next attack or he killed me
and I hadn't saved in several hours
>>334502408
basalisks in dark souls
>>334507984
Did you win?
>>334503902
Jump scares don't count, they are startling not scary. Scary is the shit you have trouble sleeping about later that night
>>334508986
yeah, I did win actually.
>>334502408
That is fucking ugly.
>>334509140
Wouldn't that be, F.E.A.R? :^)
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.
The game of logging in to the website of my bank account and checking how much $ i have left.
>>334502408
>S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl
I've never screamed because of a new enemy before.
Serious Sam FE
The sewers
Just played RE4 for the first time, and it spooked me pretty good a handful of times.

>>334504802
Fuck. That. Piano.
>>334515068
Are you memeing?
>>334505632
I've played games after PT.
IDGAF but Slender the arrival does the whole "being hunted" feeling right.
A gradual build up of tension coupled with an expected reveal and damn near no jump scares.
This guys on OOT on the N64. It has been 19 years, i think. Horror games are all boring, and non frightening to me.
