Why do people hate DRM but love Steam?
>>
>>334484543
Stockholm syndrome.
>>
I love steam for a lot of free stuff it offers
>>
I'm glad I don't need to fill my shelves with game boxes, but mad I can't play my games in another country.
>>
>>334484543

Money will help change someones opinion on something, cheaper games get a pass.
>>
>>334484543
Steam doesn't really feel like DRM.

It's not very consuming of your computer's resources, games can be played offline, and it offers a great deal of sales..

But I hate Valve after what they did with paid mods
>>
>>334484965
Don't those games that go on sale get raised in price just to seem like more of a bargain?
>>
>>334485034
There are reasons to hate valve, but that is not one of them. They immediately backed out of it, which is something that other companies might not have done. I think they deserve a little bit of credit for knowing when to drop something.
>>
>>334484543
Because steam is convenient and reliable most of the time, way ahead of any other similar service.
>>
>>334485227
MS backed out of it's DRM and still got shat on. I'd imagine Valve would try something similar again. Regardless, his reasons are justified.
>>
>>334484543
I don't hate DRM. I hate badly implemented DRM that messes with my hardware or gathers personal information.
>>
Because DRM 99% of the time irritates people, slows shit down and makes you feel like you're being treated like shit even as a paying customer.

Steam is easy as hell, cheap and more convenient than pirating everything. Easy on your harddrive, easy on your wallet and easy on the eyes.

Sure it's still DRM, but most people only care about that when it gets in your face.
>>
Everybody else
>DRM restricts your ability to play the game

Steam
>DRM restricts your ability to play the game, but you only paid $2.99 for it in the first place so who gives a fuck

Only dumb redditards "love Steam". Anyone with 2 functioning braincells already realized it's a cancer like half a decade ago.

>Steam is easy as hell, cheap and more convenient than pirating everything. Easy on your harddrive, easy on your wallet and easy on the eyes.
Thank you, Valve marketing department!
>>
>>334485502
Most steam accounts were probably made in 2012, just under half a decade ago.
>>
WHY HAVEN'T YOU GIVEN HIM YOUR FUCKING PHONE NUMBER YET YOU PIECES OF SHIT

IT'S GAVE HE JUST WANTS TO PROTECT YOU

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Sometime you can't fight cancer and have to make do with it.

So Steam?
>>
>>334485616
why the fuck would you make do with cancer if you can avoid it
fucking retard

>games can be played offline
...on Steam?
>>
>>334484543
It's a simple way of organizing your games and also has occasional good deals
I would love it way more if they would make all games playable offline, though.
Like, you already have parts of your account information stored on your computer, so why not just make the game detect the account information and check if you own the game and just let you play it offline.
>>
>>334485638
Nope
>>
>>334484543
Because no DRM sells cheap games.
>>
>>334485034
>games can be played offline
Only like 10% of them and most are indie games.
But that's not Valve's fault, but the game devs fault.

Obviously online games aren't going to work in offline.
>>334485749
There is a mode which disables all online Steam features and don't have to wait for Steam cloud to give an error (since it's offline)
>>
>>334485749
Yeah they can, steam has an offline mode.

yes on steam, try cutting your internet, you can still log in and play just fine
>>
>>334485813
Unless they change something you can.....
>>
>>334485995
>Obviously online games aren't going to work in offline

Well, yeah, but many single player games can't be played offline either, because they come preinstalled with DRM in order to prevent piracy and shit.
>>
>>334485749
Steam has an offline mode, where the only restrictions in place are shared libraries being inaccessible and discs with steam installers don't work
>>
>>334486320
>this is steam's fault

???????
>>
>>334486320
Other than a few Ubisoft games I've had no problems with extra DRM.
>>
>>334485156
No. Though if you are actually smart you know there's a shitton of other marketplaces where you can actually get stuff cheaper for preorders

>>334486320
how is that steam's fault again?
>>
>>334485227
>immediately
A week later after the launch + gaben himself went to defend it on reddit
>>
>>334485156
the only time i've seen this happen was with gtav during whatever sale that was

they completely removed the "just gta5" buy option, replaced it with an ~$80 version that include gta5 and in game money at a discount to cost the regular $60, so it was something like 20-30% off but still cost 60 bucks
>>
>>334484543
steam is easy to crack, even multiplayer
>>
Steam was first and for someone like me i like to have all games in 1 place. Not in the fucking different 10 drm platforms.

Of course Steam has an offline mode, the problem is that it's complete shit and unreliable as fuck. Were any of you idiots ever actually forced to use it? It works MAYBE for the first time you try to sign in, from there on it's good luck to you trying to play the games you "own" (because remember: according to Valve EULA it's all just "subscriptions" to "game services" :^])
>>
>>334487784
Low tier trolling. Apply yourself.
>>
>Steam
>DRM
Lol no, steam isn't automatically DRM, I have at least ten games on steam which use no form of DRM whatsoever and I have copied onto other computers and played.

>B-but devs can choose to use the optional steamworks DRM, THIS IS VALVE'S FAULT REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Most devs will use DRM no matter what the type, so if you want to blame someone blame the devs and blame pirates. Not to mention steamworks is one of the least worst DRM on the market today and for most or recent history.
>>
>>334488313
>steam isn't automatically DRM
What would you say if I wanted to install SecuROM with my game but won't use it?
>>
>>334488787
I don't care, do what you want.
