Wrong.

American English is the least distorted from those times.

British English suffered an IMMENSE amount of corruption, especially intentionally. That bullshit the upper classes pulled called Received Pronunciation, led to the current manner of speaking English in the U.K.

It'd alarm you to know that your ancestors sounded more like Americans do now than you do.

It goes much further than that. Americans spell, and use words in drastically different ways.

Things like Defense (Defence) have to be changed.

Grammar is different.

The countries don't share many common phrases or euphemisms, so those have to be adjusted.

Both countries have different laws governing what can and can't be said. This is why TMNT is called something else in the U.K.

It depends what you want out of your spear - Mount and Blade gives spears about as much time and effort as any other weapon, but they're still pretty boring (since all the weapons in M&B are grouped into common, simple movesets)

Some of the characters in Dynasty Warriors use spears and have more complex animations, but if you're not into the massively over the top, comic book style or want a more realistic use of spears then DW will disapoint you

There aren't many English speaking countries in the world, so localization is relatively simple between them all.

According to the wikipedia article on received pronunciation, it's thought that only 3% of the country spoke this way in 1974 - and since giving lessons on enunciation has been out of fashion for generations, this number is only going to have declined.

Has this happened?
I remember in X-COM: EW some soldiers got a UK flag, but then some got a Scottish flag (but none were ever distinguished as Welsh, N. Irish or English) - but then missions in Scotland were still introduced by central as being 'in the UK'.

I thought it was kinda weird to distinguish nationality for Scotland, but no other parts of the UK, but then to not distinguish the actual land of Scotland
>>
>>334472093
RP was a concerted effort on distorting the language in the UK. It was formalized and part of the institution. It's also the type of BrE that's taught abroad.

The U.S. has seen far less corruption of the language.
>>

"aluminum" was the form preferred by the british scientist who identified it. it was also the form later chosen by the american manufacturer who mass produced it

>an anonymous contributor to the Quarterly Review, a British political-literary journal, in a review of Davy's book, objected to aluminum and proposed the name aluminium, "for so we shall take the liberty of writing the word, in preference to aluminum, which has a less classical sound."
the american form respects the science and industry that brought us the material, the british form is about circle jerking with a bunch of tea sipping ivory tower faggots. and the "classical form" that passage is referring to is the latin-esque ending common to most elements, latin being a language that is not english

Please note that some people to this day still haven't seen all of the monsters in Oblivion even after many full endgame hours of the game under their belt. >>
>>334473212
As the other response said - American English has been corrupted by the numerous migrant groups that make up America, most of which were not native English speakers.

On top of which all nations have made attempts to create a standard language, across the nation, to strengthen national unity - this is the reason California and much of the South West doesn't speak Spanish (mostly). This national standard for this like spelling and pronunciation has shaped the modern language of each nation.

As I said, no one really knows the accents, inflections and nuances of how people from the past spoke their languages, but pseudo-scientists and armchair historians are common and creating fanciful bullshit takes much less effort than refuting it, so erroneous claims about past nations and ancient peoples abound on the internet

If you actually believe this you are so far up your british ass.

They are words. If the intended meaning is understood readily by the listener/reader they have done their job. A 'U' removed from a word does not change anything more than the amount of letters. Yet you will claim some pompous artistry in having the slight and meaningless difference. 'Colour' and 'color' hold the same meaning, and both of us could easily understand either.

Canada is an odd mix between the 2. That's the end result when you're close with one historically but close to the other physically.

On spelling it's mainly British English with some exceptions, such as aluminum.

On pronunciation it's the mostly British, zed and such.

And on general words its mostly American. You'll never hear a Canadian say pavements, lorry or crisps. That's sidewalk, car and chips.

> Get the ability to call in friendly troops
> Meet more important members of the faction

I'm not saying they can't find anything - linguists have made great strides in suggesting that maybe Caesar should be pronounced Kaiser, but we're still really not sure because we don't have any examples of an actual Roman actually saying the word.

I know that linguists have made suggestions for some areas - I mentioned the attempts to map human movement with that whole proto-indo-european, but recreating the actual pronunciation of words without audio is impossible - making suggestions is always an option, but I don't think there are any linguists that claim to know for certain

You keep mentioning linguists and historians that apparently add credibility to your claims - I want to know who these people are.

If I claimed that 'experts' have discovered that all the letters in America except the m, the i and the c were originally silent and the correct pronunciation of the word is actually 'mic' you'd want to know who these 'experts' are.

I never said it's all bullshit, I've even alluded to more work by linguists than you have, it's just I don't believe that any actual linguists support the claims you're saying they support.

What claims? What are you even talking about? You seem to think the entire field of study related to linguistic history is a complete sham, that's a pretty big statement.

>What claims?
This is a discussion about English and American pronunciations

Is where 'linguists and historians' were brought in as a response and then never explained.

Again, I haven't suggested that linguistic history is a sham - I'm the only one that seems to have any familiarity with it.

You seem to be making assumptions about my views and trying to put words in my mouth

Actually, I don't think anyone here gives a shit that Brits call it Aluminium or retain the U in colour.. We'd find it odd and nothing more. Stop being so unbelievably butt blasted about Americans doing things their own way, especially when it has clearly worked for us.
