For me one of the scariest things is that "Windows is loading something in the background" widget.
Because it has an equal chance of:
Doing nothing
Slowing your PC to a crawl
Making something break
Waiting 30 seconds before making the widget appear again and picking something else.
It's like the hard drive clunk or the sound of your GPU spinning up to 100% when you haven't done anything unusual that lets you know "Hey guess what something just fucked itself". Only it's not consistent. It could instantly fuck up now, it could fuck up in 30 seconds, it could fuck up in 2 minutes or 15 minutes. You don't know.
