Nigga I love Nintendo games and I own at least one of every console and handheld they've ever put out aside from the game and watches.
What I meant by "have been pretty slim" is that games are starting to revert to have N64 levels of content.
I was pretty hype about that new Mario Tennis until I found out it has less content overall than the older games.
Paper Mario is another good example, people loved those games because of the personality they had, the atmosphere, the characters, they were fun games to explore and soak in. Lately they've all been very clinical and bare bones though. The secrets aren't as plentiful and the characters are all very bland copy/pastes.
Nintendo just needs to focus on making bigger games again, the kind of game you keep coming back to for weeks if not months. The kind of games you don't want to sell back after you beat them. There is a reason why Nintendo games never go down in price, and thats because they used to be so good that no one would ever sell their copy, this really isn't the case anymore.
I love my Wii U and 3DS, but there are a lot of games for both of them that I'll probably never touch again. I don't really feel the same way about my NES, SNES, 64, cube, or any of the old handhelds.
I'd be much happier if Nintendo focused on pumping out 1-2 really great content packed games a year over 4-6 relatively forgettable games.

It's not about Nintendo games not being "good". I'm sure in a lot of ways games like Smash Brothers and Mario Kart are "good". They are technically sound, they have a base they appeal to.
But that base isn't me. I don't want to play Animal Crossing. I don't want to play Nintendo Land. When the core reasons to buy the system boil down to stuff like 3D World, Tropical Freeze, and Xenoblade, it's a very, very easy pass. Maybe I'll grab a used one for Zelda, but I didn't play the last Zelda so I actually probably won't.

I did play it, and I did feel ripped off when I realized most of it was just lifted from the Wii game. The mechanics, the visuals, the music, the art, it was all the same fucking thing. Sure you can point to the rare example of stages that introduced a new thing but the majority of it was stale as hell.
I liked that they went back to the SMW style interconnected overworld, but it just wasn't enough to salvage such a soulless experience.

I honestly wouldn't care, I went back to melee recently and it feels empty. It was amazing back then, but it hasn't aged incredibly well and the roster is small as fuck.
