Personally, I don't get a lot out of unlockable characters.

Well lemme rephrase that. I'm fine with it the first time, but I think all games should have a "unlock everything" code or something. I say this because I hate unlocking characters on multiple systems that I've already done once. I don't get anything out of that. Not that I have anything against people who do - but for a game like Smash, and I Just wanna play with my bros, it's just a pain in the ass

Fighting games now put full focus in Online and Multiplayer function. They can sell additional content as DLC too. Nintendo likes to lock stuff behind Amiibo and DLC too.
