EA has turned literally anything it has gotten its hands on in the last 25 years to complete and utter shit. They do questionably legal things all the time leading to them being taken to court and successfully sued four times in the last decade or so.

There is no other games company that comes anywhere close to the degenerate faggotry that EA does.

I've never played Mirror's Edge but I always love watching gameplay of it. It looks so damn smooth and fluid. So what does that XP change mean? Is doing shit like wall running or kicking off of a wall onto a ledge going to be locked so you need to buy it first?
>>
>>334383025
Yeah and the thing is, this is really fucking basic game design stuff. If you want to make late-game areas with a certain ability or item in mind, you need to make unlocking that upgrade mandatory. The designers at DICE probably aren't stupid - I assume they know this shit. So that means they had to have weighed their options and decided that a stupid arbitrary unlock system was more valuable than complex, skill-testing level design.
>>
>>334383316
Probably. One of the main abilities in 1 was the 180 degree turn when you pressed Q. It added to the speed and fluidity of the game since you didn't have to fiddle around with the mouse so much and as >>334381730 points as, it's already confirmed as one of the unlockable abilities which probably means bunch of others will be too

>>
>>334382202
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRrBSxdxBDc&t=5m

Compared to this video the lack of hand and feet animation during running and climbing ladders is disturbing.

Hopefully it's because of the small FOV on the consoles.
>>
>>334383278
Anita has given talks at tons of major game companies. That doesn't make her an employee or consultant.

Also, there isn't any proof that Anita even gave a talk at DICE.
>>
You just know there's going to be no kind of new game+ where so you'll never be able to have all the abilities from the get go. I barely played the first but even I know that's not the kind of game that was. It's not Far Cry or Dishonored where abilites aren't mean to keep you from getting somewhere too soon.
>>
>>334381730
Great, the game is confirmed for shit. And it will still sell shitloads more than the first game just because this is actually getting advertised.
>>
>>334383513

Any company under EA puts out mediocre EA product after EA product. EA literally does nothing but buy out smaller companies that make great games that may pose a threat to their profits, and then puts them on making assembly-line, mass-produced shit to appeal to as many people as possible while making as much DLC fuel as possible.
>>
>>334383517

>>
>>334384058
It's bad game design. If "being a prequel" leads to bad game design, don't do a prequel. It's very simple. Gameplay is king.

Also it's not even a prequel, it's a reboot. And from the dialogue in the opening sequence it's very clear that Faith has been running for a while already.

>An open world game will have multiple paths to reach the same end goal

>>
>>334384058
>She doesn't know all these moves before the first game
The abilities include shit like lifting your legs when you jump.
It's also stupid from a gameplay standpoint regardless of any story reasons you try to give it. Limiting the players movement in a game about fluid movement mechanics is fucking idiotic.
>>
>>334384236
>And from the dialogue in the opening sequence it's very clear that Faith has been running for a while already.
this
though they'll probably explain it all away with "she was in prison, she forgot how to run!"
>>
>>334384247
Doesn't change the fact that any level design which fails to incorporate something as basic as wallrun-turn-jump is bound to be boring as sin. That shit was in the damn tutorial of the original Mirror's Edge. Hell, it was the marquee moment of the opening cutscene.

It's entirely possible to write a good backstory and have the character learn the moves really quickly in the tutorial or first hour of the game. For a game where movement mechanics are so integral to the core gameplay, limiting them in this manner defeats the point and hurts replayability. Part of the fun of the original was having a wide array of moves and getting to experiment with them in time trials and in the campaign. But in Catalyst, everything will be limited and you will be softly guided through a more rigid system without experimentation. Level designers have to account for the lack of advanced skills like quick turn, arguably one of the most vital skills in the original.

She can be a rookie, but she can learn everything quickly. It's the mark of a bad writer to force a story element over a gameplay element in a game focused on the gameplay more than narrative prowess. It's self-defeating, and right off the bat has a massive disadvantage to replay value compared to the first.

This alone won't make it shit, but I guarantee it will be shit regardless.

The World will be something Zelda-like where you can reach vertain areas only with the right move (Item). If they do this good, maybe it's not that bad.
>>
>>334384961

>>
>>334382160

/v/ I've been trying to solidify everything I don't like about the new game rationally.

It's not that it's going to be a bad game. Personally, I believe if MirE: Catalyst was the first of it's kind it'd be generally well received. It's just that everything the core fans like and regarded as a breath of fresh air have been discarded in favor of easy accessibility. Wrongly too.

MirE give you access to everything all at once. From the beginning of the game, you're able to as fast and as far as you're capable. Why remove this? There was no difficult learning curve. The game was never "too hard". You were basically free to complete 80% of the game at your own leisure and speed. You never got a game over from dying to much.

So it all comes down to why? Personally, I have a theory. This game is going to be short as fuck. The problem with MirE is that once you've gained the abilities from the original game. They will transfer over to any other MirE they release. Looking at WebMs like >>334382202
makes it more than obvious. Without these caps and long ass story cutscenes. Actual gameplay for the game might only take 2-3 hours in the hands of someone decent enough at the game and that would piss a lot of people off. Much more so than these EXP unlocks and shit will.

That's only one facet though. I'd love to bitch and discuss with anons other aspects missing from the game such as the lack of the hyper minimalist aesthetic (personal gripe), lack of weight to almost anything in the game and the fact that the first game actually has better character animation.

Agreed about the minimalist aesthetic. The original ME's style was very distinct and timeless, and it still looks spectacular today. Despite the level geometry being pretty standard blocky straight edges, the splashes of color gave each area its own look distinct from the rest. I'm fairly disappointed in the new realistic/sci-fi look.
>>
>>334390195
I heard somewhere that the new "shiny" style is only in the newer parts of the city, and the older parts retain the old game's aesthetic.
