I am pretty sure 98% of /v/ has played Skyrim. Some like it, some hate it, some pretend to hate it.
I wish to play an elders scroll game but Skyrim is too laggy. Do I play morrowind or oblivion? I quite like the roleplaying aspect of morrowind, finding your paths from the directions and such, but the combat is a bit strange and tends to be overly hard. Not with missing or anything, just. Hard. Oblivion is a bit more polished, but i'm not sure, I never got too far in it. Should I give one another try?

The two are great.
I only played Morrowind a few times when I was at a friend's home but it seemed enjoyable and fun.
Other than that, I don't know enough to really judge it.
I played a lot more of Oblivion and is one of my fav games ever mostly thanks to nostalgia factor I guess.
It's easier to get into and adopted a more generic fantasy approach to the game. So hate it but I think it actually helps the lore elements to stand out in a subtle way.
Other than that, great quests, great cities, great dlcs.

If you don't care what race you play as, play Morrowind as a Redguard with Agility, Longswords and Light Armor, Heavy Armor, or both tagged and the game should be okay at the start. The more you play the easier it will become, and you can focus more on things like the guild and house quests since you should start out strong enough.
