Streamlining

I think it's the unique story line of it all

It was comfy, it was streamlined, it was entertaining, and had plenty of content for multiple playthroughs.
Still not as polished or as complete as Oblivion or Morrowind was, but still good by its own merit.
Todd, obviously

Decent open world and open architecture that allows modders improve the game in multiple ways. Anything you can think of can be game mechanic.

Skyrim had a great success with their large amount of content, graphics, and overall gameplay was superb to most at the time
Almost as if an angel had kissed it

Morrowind.
>start humbly
>investigate the world, you're nothing special
>start following a few leads on some religious dissidents
>uncover secret cult trying to cleanse Morrowind
>start having creepy dreams given by a mad false god destroyed by the tools that created him
>find out the good guys are basically just as bad
>all the while the cult starts to hunt you down, attack you in your sleep, and fuck with your connections
>in fighting against all of this, you basicallyget to become a god yourself
It's a wonderful thing to experience without any expectation.
