I'm up to Pontiff Sullyvahn with a sorcerer using Great Magic Weapon and a raw Lothric Knight sword (along with Soul Spear and the like).
I've also started a second character, starting as a knight and going to turn it into a quality build.
So far, all I have to say is that holy shit being a caster is fucking hard mode. All the buffs you need to make sorceries not suck dick consume all of your ring slots, force you to carry a decent quantity of ashen estus and hence have even less HP. Sorceries also have a tendency to miss, and there are plenty of enemies that specifically fuck up casters (invisible until you approach them casters in Irithyll, Dungeon Wardens with their HP lamps, etc).

What's worse is that Dark Souls 2 had a ton of filler content, but Dark Souls 3 is just sort of lacking, even if the content is decent. I feel like there could have been 2 or 3 more areas before DLC at least. The world design also leaves a lot to be desired, even if it did give us nice vistas that somewhat made sense.

i watched the video and sure if i saw that it before i went through that area i would have slapped on some light armor but at some point it's just semantics.
but still, those enemies are relentless and you get tapped once, you get stun-locked easily, or you run out of stamina avoiding them. nothing about what made that area hard had anything to do with my armor.
it was easier for me to just take my shit off. dodge their attacks and not get hit at all, and hit them with my claymore over and over.
the area wasn't hard because of the damage i was taking, but because the design of the enemies. they have range. they have an absurd number of very fast attacks and some attacks that have more range than usual or the wind up is tricky. fighting more than one is a death sentence and even blocking with a shield was useless as they would just wail on you until you guard break.

I love invading in this game. Almost every time I invade it is 2 or 3 on one. The thing is, they group up because they suck. I still have good success invading by picking them off one at a time. If they just huddle by the bonfire, I assume they don't wanna play so I just BC outta there.

Just got done with Irithyll and did a test run of Aldritch. Jesus christ Irithyll was good. The environment itself was gorgeous, the enemies were really tough but entertaining to fight, there were some fantastic spooky moments with the invisible guys in the darkness/the spider things in the water and the boss fight was excellent. By far the best one so far, although I feel like I cheesed him by staying close to him. That way his attacks are a bit too easy to dodge. Anor Londo's looking as empty and lazily designed as usual, but it fits here since it's a nice quiet break from such an intense and fun area.

It's hard to tell if the level design is really good or just a bit too linear
It doesn't feel like you have as wide an area to go around or that there are many secret parts which let you sequence break, but at the same time I think it has the most fair traps where I haven't felt any part is pure bullshit. The enemy placement has been good as well and the only time I felt things got out of control is when I didn't deal with a set up well.
I think DS3 might be a better game than the other two but it hasn't drawn me in the same way

Not a bug, Sulyvahn is just a blender for 95% of his boss battle. He punishes greed and panic rolling very hard. His purple sword's thrusts are lightning quick, if you hug him, he'll almost certainly nick you with it.

Nah, the gimmick was kinda stupid and a waste of time. The second phase is too easy to stunlock and has too little health. Pontiff felt much more consistent and the dodge timings made it really entertaining to fight him, felt like a dance.

Game just arrived in the mail today, so I'm a little late to the party, but I'm quite enjoying it so far. Just got to the bridge in the Undead Settlement and died a few times to the Greatwood boss. Haven't found any illusory walls yet though, despite finding a few messages left indicating them. I guess they were troll messages?
